On March 16 in Duluth, at the DECC is a vital meeting to protect the Boundary Waters watersheds.

Please join us Thursday, March 16, from 5:00-7:30 PM at the DECC to help protect the Superior National Forest and Rainy River (Boundary Waters) Watershed. The U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are holding this meeting to receive public comments on their proposal to “withdraw” these areas for 20 years so that they can’t be used for sulfide mining.

What: Tell the Forest Service and BLM to protect the Boundary Waters watershed from copper-nickel mining and to evaluate impacts on wetlands, water quality, wild rice, human health, environmental justice and local economies. Prepare comments you can read in 3 minutes.

When: Thursday, March 16, 5:00-7:30 PM, doors open to the public at 4:00 PM. Please come early to sign up to speak, and also come to the pre-meeting rally at 3:30 PM hosted by Save the Boundary Waters.

Where: DECC, Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center - down by Canal Park
350 Harbor Drive, Duluth, MN 55802

Why: This is our chance to tell the Forest Service and BLM to study all the ways in which sulfide mining would affect the Boundary Waters watershed and the communities that rely on these waters. We need as many supporters of clean water as possible to come to this meeting.

There will be a lottery system to determine who gets to speak at the meeting. Every person matters. If your name is drawn in the lottery and you decide not to speak, another advocate for protection of the Boundary Waters can speak in your place.

We hope to see you there!
