IMO, it's best to use a groundcloth under the tent, between tent floor and ground.

There you go . . . Apparently trying to make "ground cloths great again". Gotta stir up things one way or another, I guess. Maybe Cliff Jacobson could chime in. Or the Vandiver group could write a song called, "Innie or Outie".

Man oh man, I remember when this would have created a firestorm. Those were the days, huh? Actually though, I agree. Tried the innie thing one year after reading some of Cliff's books. Have to say, I learned a lot from Cliff, and respect his knowledge. However, if you are careful to tuck your ground cloth under the tent so it doesn't carry water beneath the tent, an outie is the way for me. So, bring it on! 😛

...but that's probably because they're all out purchasing new tents!

"OK, sir,...you want the same model as what you replaced the last three years?"

My tent has a vestibule that covers about four feet of ground outside the door. I leave two feet of ground cloth sticking out from under the tent and vestibule so I have a clean place to sit while I take off my camp shoes.

would just be classified as a plain old "ground cloth".
Just to be sure, you should buy me a Lean 3 -- no, just make it a Lean 2 or Lean 1, I don't want to be greedy - and I'll use it and get back to you as to what I think should be the proper terminology!
