My first trip was in 1999 and my group and I went every year until 2012...after 4 years off, we got back up there and absolutely loved it. We hit up one of my favorite brookie lakes.
I'll tell a quick story that I find amusing. After a long weekend, we're paddling out - we were there in October, so very few people around. We're on the last lake before the entry point and we see a canoe off in the distance heading in. As we approach we stop to chat briefly with a couple of gents in their 60's. I ask where they're headed...an awkward pause ensues and the one fella looks at the other. Finally the one guy pipes up and says we're after some trout. Clearly they didn't want to tell us about their lake. It was in October...so I knew lake trout season was closed, which meant they were chasing brookies. From this particular entry point, there's really only one brookie lake you're going to land on. So without pause, I say "Oh, your headed to______" (note: I also don't feel like sharing this lake). With a wide eyes and a sense a bewilderment on their faces, one guy says...how did you? with the other guy simultanously saying...you know the lake? I left the how did you alone and simply answered with...We just came from there, don't worry, we left you plenty of fish in the lake. And with that we parted ways.
Glad our trips didn't overlap or someone would have missed out. Despite the fact that we both have the same "secret" lake...I still believe it to be pretty much a secret - the portage in is nearly overgrown.
with your enthusiasm for your BW trips. Never any doubt you'd be back & enjoying it again!
