This week, the broadcast networks are unveiling their fall lineups. The links below break everything down by network. Lost will return in 2008 with uninterrupted new episodes and the producers have announced that they will conclude the series in 2010. The flagship Law & Order will be back in January for its 18th season (executive producer Dick Wolf wants to beat Gunsmoke's record for longest-running prime time drama series); its Criminal Intent spinoff is moving to USA Network, and among the cancelled shows: The King of Queens, Gilmore Girls, 7th Heaven, Veronica Mars, According to Jim, George Lopez, Jericho, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (which my folks LOVED), Close to Home, The Class and Crossing Jordan.

ABC will have a new sitcom starring the Geico Cavemen :o

I am reviving this thread which I launched in 2007 as the broadcast networks are unveiling their fall lineups.

Interesting tidbits--among the shows cancelled: Samantha Who?, Everybody Hates Chris, Without A Trace and The Unit. Jay Leno's new show will be on at 10:00PM 5 nights a week, moving Law & Order SVU to Wednesdays up against Criminal Minds (two very good crime dramas). The original Law & Order will tie Gunsmoke's record for longest-running prime time drama. Medium moves from NBC to CBS where it will play back to back with the equally strange Ghost Whisperer. Smallville enters its NINTH season. :o ABC is reviving the old "V" miniseries from the 80s and has new shows with Courtney Cox and Kelsey Grammer.

It has been EXACTLY one year since this thread was updated. Here is the complete fall lineup for the five broadcast networks:

Among the shows cancelled: The New Adventures of Old Christine, Ghost Whisperer, the original Law & Order, Cold Case, Lost and 24.

It's that time of year again as the broadcast networks continue to struggle with declining ratings while cable dominates. Among the casualties this year: Law & Order Los Angeles, Brothers & Sisters, Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, Smallville and Friday Night Lights. Former NBC show-turned-USA show Law & Order: Criminal Intent is also a goner, leaving Special Victims Unit the only L&O show still in production. In my opinion, SVU is the best of the bunch. Benson and Stabler rock.

October isn't even over yet and already the ax has fallen on two new network shows, CBS's Made In Jersey and NBC's Animal Practice, as well as ABC's Private Practice (the Grey's Anatomy spinoff).

On a happier note, NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit just aired its 300th episode. Pictured below is the current cast with executive producer Dick Wolf.

I think Made in Jersey had a pore time slot. it was a good show though a bit slow. the actress was charming and it was a fresh take on the lawyer show.

Animal practice I didn't care for there was not one character in the show worth liking. a shame the main veterinarian was great on Reba.

but I', sure we will see a few more drop off soon.

ya it's going great, tough the show is not my cup of tea.

While some canceled shows deserve it, Too often canceled shows are simply not given the chance to build an audience or not enough time to find itself.

Shows like Seinfeld, Cheers, and Family ties did horrible for the first couple seasons but went on to be some of the most popular shows in history.

Some of the most well-written scripted shows end up cancelled, while some really horrible ones end up running for years and years. I am not into reality shows at all and don't understand the appeal for shows like Survivor, The Amazing Race, American Idol, Big Brother, Jersey Shore and Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The only exceptions are Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Undercover Boss because they do good for less fortunate people. To this day I still question the Nielsen Ratings system.

Another example: remember A Different World? It was the overhyped spinoff to The Cosby Show, which was giving NBC epic ratings back in the 80s. In my opinion, the only reason ADW lasted as long as it did was because of its cushy time slot between Cosby and Cheers. NBC could have put on a black & white test pattern there and that would have been a ratings smash. Further proof--after Cosby ended its run, ADW moved to 8PM Thursdays where it got its butt kicked by The Simpsons, which was still in its early years.

Time Slot means a lot. Often a show they want to do better despite the quality because it's the type of show they want.

I also am not a fan of reality shows. Though i do watch eh music related ones form time to time.Reality shows and Prime time game shows are so popular because of their return on investment. you pay out very little to those on the show. Or in some cases you pay the judges and the people on the show get little to nothing. But they bring in similar adverting revenue from a mainstream show.

With performers of popular shows demanding more and more salary reality shows are more appealing.

Partners was OK but not great. Last Resort I never got into.

Sucks about 666 Park ave. not sure how it could be doing that bad. There wasn't much against it. at least on regular TV. I simply watched the replay of the Walking dead at Midnight.

A Haunting has returned, to my delight, on cable channel Destination America. It was on hiatus from 2007 - 10/2012.

It has a new opening, which is slightly changed from the original run. Still narrated by the ever-creepy voice of Anthony Call ;). It airs every Fri 10PM E.

Anthony Call? Glad to see that he found another steady gig after One Life To Live! He was the attorney who grilled Karen Wolek (Judith Light) on the witness stand, forcing her to break down and admit to being a prostitute. This was the performance that won her an Emmy and put her on the map to stardom (Who's The Boss?, Law & Order and others).

Just watched an interesting rerun of SVU on USA (Characters Welcome). Special guests Alfred Molina (Doc Ock from Spider-Man 2) and two stage & screen legends (Rita Moreno and Angela Lansbury), and in one scene, ADA Casey Novak is beaten to a pulp in her own office after hours. I bet all the criminals she prosecuted would loved to have seen that.

This is back when Elliot Stabler was on it. The newer episodes just aren't as good. I think SVU is in its final season.

I'm sick of both law and order and CSI. to many spin offs and it is simply old. There are better Law shows out there that mix up the drama and humanity or drama and comedy that you can look elsewhere.

Well I'm looking forward to the new SVU episode Wednesday at 9PM with special guest Nia Vardalos from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It will be nice to see her in a non-comedic role for a change, plus, she hasn't done much of anything since Connie & Carla.

I love Connie and Carla. It's one of those movies I can repeatedly watch and enjoy. Big Fat Greek Wedding is an all time favorite. Reminds me of my Big Fat Italian Family. :Ahh:

I've been hearing about CBS planning a spinoff series for NCIS: Los Angeles. This is a first--a spinoff of a spinoff of a spinoff.

Let me break it down for you. This proposed new crime drama (which has yet to be titled) came from NCIS: LA, which came from NCIS, which came from JAG.

Another show you probably didn't realize was a spinoff: The Simpsons (The Tracey Ullman Show).
