I am pleased to announce that the display, originally planned for 13
August, has been rescheduled to Saturday 17 September in the Lebreton gallery of the CWM. It will run from 11 am to 3 pm.
The display will commemorate the founding of the Canadian Womens Army Corps (CWAC) on 13 August 1941. The Corps served till September 1946 then was removed from the Order of Battle of the Canadian Army. More than 20,000 women served in the CWAC in 67 trade areas across Canada, in the USA, England, Italy and western Europe. The accolades about their service are reflected in the honours and awards received throughout the conflict.
The Corps was reformed in 1951 and served as an integral part of Canadian Army (Militia) units until the unification of the Canadian Armed Forces, at which time the women simply put up the new cap badge and continued to serve in both the Regular and Reserve Forces wherever they have been required.
If you have something uniquely CWAC, bring it along and add it to the display.
Hope to see you there!!
The display will open at 10 am (vice 11 am) and will close at 3 pm (no change).
If you have something uniquely CWAC, bring it along and add it to the display. It will be cared for most carefully.
Hope you can make it.
