Better Call Saul

In addition to Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks reprising their roles as Saul Goodman and Mike Ehrmantraut, the full cast will include Michael McKean as Chuck, Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin and Michael Mando as Nacho — "characters that will represent both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law."

The series is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is "fixer" Mike Ehrmantraut, a beloved character introduced in 'Breaking Bad.' The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "Criminal lawyer." The series' tone is dramatic, woven with dark humor.

from EW's article >> After Gilligan’s premiere, Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones) will direct episode 2, Terry McDonough (who directed the first Saul episode) directs episode 3 and Colin Bucksey (four episodes of Breaking Bad) helms episode four and Adam Bernstein (Fargo) has episode 5.

It's fun that Michael Mando (Vic on Orphan Black) is in the cast. Patrick Fabian is a 'that guy' that pops up a lot, but I always think of his Veronica Mars Season 3 role as Prof. Landry...

They say they've broken 8 of the first 10 and haven't brought anybody back yet, don't want to make it a parade of greatest hits... but I do expect they'll find a way to get Gus in eventually... just probably not in the first season.

I can't wait. Do you think with all the hype it will live up to expectations?

Depends on what your expectations are...

It will not be as good as Breaking Bad. Let's all agree that we should not expect that. Nobody should be DISAPPOINTED to discover that it's not as good as BB.

But if we're talking about spin-offs... yes, I'm trusting/expecting that this will be closer to Frasier than, say, After M*A*S*H or Joey...

It may have been a wonky idea to GIVE them a spin-off, but I did LIKE Gilligan/Spotnitz/Shiban's The Lone Gunmen...
