The audition done by Bruce on 1st May 1972 was for WOTD.

Here are the photos which showed Bruce's whereabouts from 1st May to 4th May 1972 (sources: GH Movie News, Ming Pao Weekly, Betty Ting's interview):

According to June issue, GH Movie News, Bruce did that last minute audition to find the suitable candidate for the female role in WOTD. As it was going to film in ROME, the distant cousin for Tang Lung might be a lady with an Eurasian look. That's why Irene Ryder and Margaret Miller (aka Mui Ga Lai), both Eurasians were called upon for the screentest. Irene Ryder has confirmed in her FB that she did the screentest for WOTD not GAME. Their Eurasian looks also didn't fit Bruce's sister role in GAME.
However, when Bruce learnt that Lo Wei was getting Nora Miao to play in his new film, "A Man Called Tiger," Bruce was annoyed and wanted Raymond Chow to get Nora to play for WOTD instead. Chow did that to please Bruce. Lo was terribly upset then and had no choice but to use Maria Yi for his new film. So, Irene Ryder and Margaret Miller were both dropped.

Just a brief intro about the ladies who went for audition:

1) Irene Ryder (born 1949) was born to an English father and a Chinese mother. She was a popular Eurasian HK English pop singer in HK between the 1960s & 70s. Among the other singles that she recorded were a duet with Robert Lee, former member of HK beat band - The Thunderbirds and the younger brother of Martial Arts star Bruce Lee.

2) Margaret MILLER,(aka MUI Ga Lai) was born to a German father and Chinese mother. She was quite a popular young HK star back then who could sing, dance and act at the same time. She joined TVB in the 70s and retired in the 80s.

The 3rd lady who were present at the audition was a pure Chinese lady, named Fong Yan. This is the only possiblity that Bruce might cast her for his GAME if she has done the audition because of his Chinese look which would resemble Bruce's sister in GAME rather than Irene Ryder and Margaret Miller. Anyway, this is just a guess, nothing concrete has been found.

3) Fong Yan -- She was from Taiwan and a new star in GH then. In total, she just made around 4-5 movies before quitting the movie industry.

Great info, thanks.

Didn't know Lee's WOTD haircut was done by Betty Ting's hairstylist. Interesting.

Cool. Lee made the right choice to get Nora Miao to play WOTD. As for GOD, I personally think Nora was a better choice than Fong Yan as mentioned.

Different days and different occassions.

Take note of 1st May where Bruce wore purple shirt and dark pant (color photo) and on 2nd May Bruce wore a blue shirt (color photo) and light pant. There's a Chinese article next to it confirm the date.
Bruce couldn't be attending the farewell dinner and the evening nightclub opening ceremony all at the same time. The black and white photo of the shirts Bruce wore might be misleading.

BTW, Yuen Woo Ping was not in the photo, he's still a nobody like Jackie Chan back then. I think you are referring to Bowie Wu Fung.

FYI.

What a big change in his hairstyle between May 2 and May 3. You sure it was cut by Betty Ting's hairdresser not Lee himself?

Great info. The 2 Eurasian ladies look pretty attractive. Shame, Lee didn't cast them in any of his movies.

Wasn't Irene Ryder the wife of Bruce Liang?

I informed DT that it was Irene Ryder years ago when doing research into these pics before SK released his books. Robert said he didn't think it was her (Robert knew her from his singing days) be I was certain that it was her.

There was the local Eurasian singer, Irene Ryder, talking late one night about the acid attack that had left her face ravaged.
