I notice the BLL site has been really slow over the last several days. It's taking 20-30 seconds to load a page. Also, where has the 'search' feature gone?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Posts are slow to load and the search feature has disappeared. I've posted on the Admin forum to try and find out more about these issues.

Was wondering if the new wallpaper has affected some options? Will change and test it.

It seems that Chris Moser has bailed from Network 54 and Tapatalk has taken over, if this brief message is an indication:

I'm told by someone who knows these things that the programming underlying N54 is ancient in web terms and barely compatible with the modern internet, and that this is probably why Tapatalk is having to work very hard to bring the system up to scratch.

The slowness of the system and loss of some functionality could well be due to this effort.

I'm also advised that Tapatalk, which is aimed mainly at mobile users, has a reputation for maximising the revenue potential of the forum networks it takes over.

Fair enough, and their involvement might be beneficial in the long run for forums that are 'chat rich'. But mine were 'content rich' and so I have abandoned N54 for a modern WordPress website. This was a major undertaking.

If yours is a chat-based forum, I would probably hang tight and hope for better days under the new owners. Alternatively, you could migrate now and cut loose from N54 before Tapatalk commandeers your content...

Why Tapatalk hasn't been open and frank about what it's doing for the network is a mystery to me and probably doesn't augur well for transparency in future. Maybe it's because they are not sure it can be done, technically-speaking?

Thanks Nick. Sounds like with Tapatalk there will be some changes you won't be able to anticipate or control.

Maybe it's time to migrate and port the content to another platform?

I don't really want to move to another forum because all the posts here will be history. I can't save them all so just grin and bear it for now.

We are excited to let you know about the next evolution of Network54.

As we look at our traffic, we see that mobile now accounts for over 50% of the traffic viewing Network54 forums. And Network54 was designed for desktop traffic. To help us improve accessibility on mobile devices, we are going to partner with Tapatalk. Tapatalk has been a leader in providing native app and mobile web experience to forums. Given Tapatalk's expertise in mobile, it is a natural step in the evolution of Network54.

In a couple of months, you will will soon begin to see some enhancements. These include:

- Ability to view Network54 forums on the Tapatalk. Free (and -
optional) for everyone

- For Admins and Moderators, you will be able to moderate the forums on the Tapatalk app (requires Admin or Moderator credentials when logging into the Tapatalk App)

- Upgrade to a new forum system, providing additional features and controls

- Improved spam control and filtering of inappropriate (adult) images

While there several improvements, most things will remain the same, including:

- Your existing settings and controls

- For those on Premier, ad removal

Stay tuned for future announcements, and let me know if you have any questions.
