Ann Winton, one of Jhoon Rhee’s leading followers, appeared in the HK action movie “When Taekwondo Strikes”(1973) which also starred Mao Ying, Carter Wong, Sammo Hung, Hwang In-Shih, Andre Morgan etc.

In an article of '73 GH magazine, it says that“An American beauty and a follower of Jhoon Rhee, Ann Winton is a college graduate in fine Arts. Her attractive appearance and nice boxing technique could have well earned her generous offers from Hollywood. But instead, she films for Golden Harvest, on the one hand to show her support to Master Jhoon Rhee, and on the other hand, she avails herself the opportunity to visit this world famous Pearl of Orient. She is by all means happy.”

In early 1973, Jhoon Rhee was invited to HK by Bruce to watch Hapkido and at the same time negotiate a movie deal with GH. After the negotiation, Jhoon Rhee decided to play the movie,“When Taekwondo Strikes” which started filming in late Mar and ended in early June. The other actor/actresses include Angela Mao, Hwang In-Shih, Carter Wong, Kenji Kazama, Sammo Hung, Yuen Biao and GH producer Andre Morgan.

Jhoon thanked Bruce for helping him in getting the lead role in this movie so that he could promote JKD to the world audience. In '72 Golden Harvest Movie News (Issue 13), there is an article that says, “The Father of American TKD” – Jhoon Rhee has decided to bring along 2 of his best lady students to HK and make Huang Feng’s new film. According to Rhee, the 2 Americans, one is 19 years old and another 21 years old, are pretty young ladies whose martial skills are superior..."
One of them was Ann Winton, the other who was unknown did not come to HK with Rhee.

Refer also to letters in "Bruce Lee & I" written by Jhoon Rhee which had Bruce's letter to Rhee in Feb'73 that talked about negotiating the new movie with GH and Bruce asking Rhee to speed up sending him the students who were to appear with him in the movie.

Here is the "When Taekwondo Strikes" (1973) complete English version movie:

Oh, Andre Morgan plays the father in that movie. Not bad for an inexperienced person to be in a movie. LOL.

Anne Winton only did one movie 'When Tae Kwon Do Strikes' and nothing else seems to be known about her, uncertain if she just happened to be in Hong Kong when they were casting or she flew over with Jhoon Rhee. If Andre Morgan is ever interviewed on here, he would be the person to ask.

Jhoon Rhee took her over to do the film. Ann was his student.

She submitted a feminist letter to Black Belt which can be read in the April 1974 issue.

She was murdered by her husband in 1982.

One of her friends wrote an article (for a 1983 issue of The Washingtonian) about her life and death (including a reference to her H.K. movie).
