I got my first phone in my second year of university. I managed to walk to the shops, school, cinema without needing a phone and always carried my trusty BT chargecard to phone home with if there was an emergency....

Joking aside, I think 10-11 is the right age I.e. Senior primary school age or the age when you are trying to give your kids a bit more responsibility. My eldest had one when she was 8 but that's because she was going to be at boarding school and needed a way to stay in touch. My 9 year old has been blagging me for 2 years and I suspect we will have to cave on her 10th birthday

My kids keep asking (3 and 8yrs) they are not getting a phone until they are old /mature enough to go out with their friends without mum or dad being around. then they can have a brick. otherwise the tablet is perfectly fine for home. I didnt get a phone until I was 15, having said that I did mostly want my 3210 for snake and texting.
