Admittedly, this should have gone up yesterday. Derp.
We were in Houston yesterday for the Luckies game against the Roos. Quesnel has the same jersey colors as my high school in Hay River, NWT. Hard fought first period, including an actual fight, which was won by Skylar Hassell. Quesnel scored first on the PP, but Houston tied it up shortly after with a crazy goal, after Dwayne Meints flipped it from his own end while the Luckies were on the PK, puck took a weird bounce, and literally rolled up one side and down the other of the Roos goalie, before sliding in the net very slowly. Second period, Luckies struck first catching Blair Dinelle just as he came off the bench, perfect play there. Quesnel tied it up, but Houston got another weak goal, and the Roos starter got the hook. Ryan Manderson came in, and was easily the difference maker for the rest of the game. High intensity from both teams, Quesnel got out to a 5-3 lead, but Houston would make it 5-4 late on a 5 on 3. They had another 5 on 3 after that, but Manderson absolutely robbed Ophus on the goal line with a sharp glove, and Quesnel wins their first roadie, 5-4 final score.
Clean goal of the game: Blair Dinelle's off the bench and in stab in the 2nd period.
Peak Point Of No Return: Manderson's big glove save.
Tough Guy of the Game: Dan Kirkham (Que) who made some big blocks, hits, and showed good toughness staying in the game after a couple things that could have given him a reason to stay out.
Three Stars: 3- Ryan Manderson (Que), 2- Curtis Gassof (Que), 1- Paul Girodat (Que)
Today, we are in Smithers for the Tomahawks first game at The Pond. Pre-game with Dalby and Brown at 1PM, puck drop at 1:30PM. Listen online at http://thepeak.ca
