I have always been under the impression that MOONCHILD by Shakespeare's Sister is referencing Bowie, when it says "Mr Jones says hey young girl".  It fits perfectly thematically anyway.

Can't be sure - but do we think 'Spaceboy' (title + Mr Jones ref) is a reference to Bowie (Smashing Pumpkins)..?

Au Contraire - They Might be Giants

"David Bowie came to town
Flying overhead
"Don't you dig my chops?" he cried
This is what they said
Au contraire, Dave
Quite the opposite, in fact
As it happens, au contraire
Au contraire, mon frare"

There are at least two by The Fall.

As far as I recall, Hard Life in the Country mentions 'D Bowie lookalikes', and He Pep! has the line "conceptually à la Bowie".

Ah found it -  Dr. Hook ‎– Everybody's Making It Big But Me

"Well I paint my face with glitter
Just like Bowie does"

It's a really good song...curiously, on the version I found on youtube, a live performance, they changed the line about Bowie - probably because at the time Bowie was very big in America, and Young Americans had just come out and renounced the glitter.

I noticed at least one other live version on youtube contained the line 'just like Louis does' instead of Bowie, so I guess as an American band they were going on the image of Bowie that was more known over there (the post Ziggy look(s).
