1973 April 5 David Bowie travelled to Japan on the Oronsay, he gave an impromptu solo acoustic performance for the ships passengers and crew. "At 4pm Bowie arrives in Yokohama, Japan on the SS Oronsay having sailed from from Los Angeles."

Anyone have a copy of this?

What do you think he played?

One more photo of David Bowie on the SS Oronsay standing next to Colonel. Sanders.

A few years ago in NYC, I was introduced to an elderly Japanese businessman named Haruki , who also travelled on that ship.
Haruki mentioned that David Bowie, Colonel Sanders and other VIP often had dinner at the Captain's table.
One evening at the Captain's request Bowie played his acoustic guitar and sang a couple of his songs, Changes and Starman.

Much later that same evening David, Colonel Sanders, Haruki and a few others moved on to the bar and started drinking till late,
they all ended up very tipsy and singing the night away to songs like 'Blow the Man Down' and 'Drunken Sailor'.

If it wasn’t for the pics I’d say it was a tale from an alternate possible world. Love it!
