Let's just say I met the guy who has it (well must have had it, he was a key member in Chameleon), but it wasn't the right time to ask about the song. not in detail anyway. The subject cropped up, but during a recording session. There's a lot to achieve in a short time in these (it's not cheap, recording).
I've kicked myself over not trying harder to try to curry favour but let's face it, I knew then and knew now that I won't have been the only person hankering over getting the recording, and that's not why I was there.
He would have been aware of the power of Bowie's lawyers too over things getting out.

It would be lovely to hear, but...

There were a couple of snippets from 'Bombers' from Glastonbury on the Radio Geronimo site. I never heard them, and I read they were taken down ages ago.

Just looked at the site just now, no sign of them, and even more tellingly, there are links to the some of the tracks from the original Glastonbury Fayre LP, but not to the (studio re-recorded) version of Supermen. That could just be it wasn't on youtube or wherever when they set up the site, or that Bowie's lawyers frightened them off.

I think the Bombers snippets have circulated though. Don't think I've got them but I need to sort out my Bowie files soon - someone will have them, pretty sure of that.

The Glastonbury recording of Bombers is not so much bad as distorted.

Firstly, it sounds like Geronimo added fx at the start and end - possibly to get around the maximum 30 seconds of copyrighted music that was more prevalent at the time it was shared on their radio site. It's 39 seconds long but strewn with fx at the start and end like I say, quite possibly to get around the above allowance of 30 seconds  copyrighted music maximum being generally allowable.

Secondly, it's sounds like a low res mp3 which doesn't help. Even though the site had connections to the people involved in the original Glastonbury festival, a small compressed file of it being used is also understandable / explainable - back in the early 2000's we did not have anything remotely resembling the storage capacity everyone can easily afford or have easy access to today. Back then, it was either low res mp3s for a lot of people or struggle to contain music collections on hard drives (the latter for me).

It's a stereo recording - I guess because it was mixed that way by the person doing the sound on the day.

I would think there's a reasonable chance the master itself - or a close copy - is in reasonable condition.

Jeff Riviera, who was involved in running the festival and later ran the legendary Stiff label(look it up if you don't know it, worth reading about), allegedly has the master and said it would only be released when the revolution came. There would probably be one or two other closely guarded copies - I read recently something about Angie collecting a copy for David at the time, and apparently that she'd said they'd be happy for it to be released.
