Hi all, I used to play guard long while ago, back in 5th ed. I ran Catachans, had a jungle load of infantry with neat tricks and gear and an epic special character in Sly Marbo. Long story short, I went off to uni, got on with life and now I've finally got the money and time to get back into the hobby here I am.

I've bought the new rule book(s) and codex, ventured back home and up into my parents loft to find all my models missing (and a brother who swears he had nothing to do with it) so I'm starting again from scratch and would love comments / notes / guidance on where to go from here.

My initial thoughts are that I want to build another guard army, possibly steel legion. I like the look of the tanks (having previously collected an army where tanks weren't allowed with the Catahcan rules) and in particular the hellhammer - s*** man that looks sweet and there's even Catachan fluff to go along with it if I go back to them.

Catachan superheavy for guerilla warfare? Sounds at least interesting :B):

Anyway, welcome around.

Welcome back to the Guards, soldier!

Steel legion is a nice looking army but I guess you will either have a limited range of pretty old models and problems getting them or you have to rely on 3rd party parts. Anyway, good luck with your project, I am looking forward to some pics of your stuff.

Welcome, welcome. Sorry to say we're pretty low activity these days.

Yeah, I had a quick lurk around the forum and saw things were a tad quiet - I was linked here from DakkaDakka. I don't think I'll have enough models to play until after Xmas but as soon as their bought, made and painted I will appropriately post images / updates on how I'm fairing with them. Quite a few changes from when I last played, including loosing special rules for different guard regiments which is a tad disappointing

this page has its ups and downs activity will pick up after the guard gets a updated codex
Negative the Sisters of Battle codex is not an upgrade it is a failed update.

Wouldn't be so optimistic - looks more like the entire w40k and (more importantly) GW business model would need some reworking.
