Heya! Didn't know where to put this, so i planted it here, where the young ones are. Sorta. Re-reading some introductionary threads and remembering about my own made me understand that if something such as the text i present here, existed at the time i joined, it would spare me some uneasy moments at the beginning of 2008. :) I made it fun, insane enough for our needs, and informative aboiut the....specifics...of BC. Would be happy if this would get pinned somewhere where guests and new members would see it. Anyhow, i tried to make this guide as useful and true as i could, with only the best intentions in mind - so don't be harsh if you don't like it. Torq off.

So, i'm here. What is this place anyway?

This is the place where you'll learn what pain is. And how to paint your army better. And how to make epic conversions that make orks look like dinner club members in comparison. And find some great guys to chat about life with. And that sanity's name is Dave and he walks with underpants on his head. Nobody cares about that, though. This is a community. NOT just a forum. Understand the difference.

Oh, great! I'm eager to start posting, what should i do?

Make an introductionary thread in the sign-in soldier parts, of course! And make it quick, trooper! You've got potatoes to peel, socks to wash and suici...err...HEROIC missions to do!

Wait, what? Where's the greeting milk and cookies? Why are you commanding me?

Well, firstly, because by registering your miserable hide on these boards, you elisted to the Guard, lad. And we're here to make you a hard nut to crack. This place is for the rough, the insane and the worhty! Surviving the introductionary thread is your first assignment and if you pass, you might be even worth a half-dead gaunt. And we like to have fun in our intro threads, because we're not nice B&C people, who'd ignore you instead.

Wait, does that mean, you'll be rude to me, because i'm a newbie?

No, it means that if we won't like something you do, we'll tell you. And, most likely, it's not going to be nice. In BC, we do things our way, and we like it. It means that if you do something epic (such as becoming a regular) you'll be noticed. This place isn't big, but every man that has stayed (and the occasional woman) here is worth his weight in gold.

I made this thread about which special weapon to take for my guardsmen, but it seems to be ignored...help?

Now, imagine how we feel: Answering the same question year after year, after year, just because you didn't lurk/use search function. Also, woe betide you, if you like to misspell things! (For one, i'm not a native enlgish speaker, and if i can do it, so can you. Oorah?)

And by the way, the answer is plasma. (Some might tell you otherwise, but i'm one of those persons who stand by it at all times)

Ach! These guys are mentioning alcohole and/or smoking in their threads, and i'm a minor!

We're not your mother. We. Don't. Care.

Ha! I read something about Mo, Sigma & ect. being epic and famous and all that wot. I'm will now try to best them with my epic thread!

Do it. Seriously. We'll have so much fun, destroying your sanity afterwards! In an alternate reality, you could, instead, be a cool guy and keep your wits about, that way showing that you're mature enough to be treated seriously. We like yougsters, we hate spoiled brats.

And how will this benefit me?

Like i said: Beyond insanity, weirdness and ignorance on an epic scale, we're the good guys of the internet, really. You'll receive meaningful advices and won't be treated like an inferior (except the intro thread) only because your post count is lower than ours. That, Sir, is a marvel to behold by itself. And our admins are really cool. (ALL HAIL DICTATOR MKOLL! ALL HAIL COMMISSAR WOLFMAN WALT! ALL HAIL MASTER STRATEGIST FORLORN HOPE!)

Any more tips?

Obey the rules. Don't be a bore. Beware of the Fluffy. And if Jimmy gives you anything, RUN! P.S. We like pictures! Off you go now, and...good luck! :salute:

Since this is unofficial, I can still make my OFFICIAL guide! BWAAHAHAA

Seriously, though, it'll probably address things you didn't or from the "Official" perspective. But I have to say that some things are indeed contradictory and elitist.

Ermm....
Well, i didn't mean it to be elitist. I specifically stated that we treat everyone equally, ignoring the post count and that we are the good guys. Besides, the guide should be read as a piece of entertainment too.....

Of course, i HAVE to contradict you on some things, otherwise the guys around will think that we're, emperor forbid, normal.

It's got my aprovel , a little short , but it cuts to the point of almost anything.

Maybe a little softer on the "you'll be mean to me becouse i'm new" side of things , i've always thought we [As a site and communitiy] getting less welcomming to new blood and more insulting.

I remember when i joined i was warmly welcomed by almost everyone i spoke to.

Yeah, it seems like one has to run a gauntlet of banter nowadays if one wants to gain admittance. Nothing wrong with horsing around, but it seems like there's almost an institutionalised hazing procedure in the Sign In forum.

I dunno, I kinda liked the treatment I got in my sign-in thread (of course, I tailor made my username and sign-in topic to be the ire of anyone in the Guard, and was going for a serious dressing-down, call me masochistic), but, it does seem a mite extreme for someone who's not expecting it, or, doesn't have as welcoming a sense of humor.

Humour is mandatory for Guard. If you cant laugh at your men exploding, then you are applicable for the AdMech.

Also true if you get a hard on by looking at a CPU.
It's a good day for some other fragger to die.

That's the direction I'm attempting to steer this.

Gentlemen, less what we're going to throw the new guy into and more welcoming. I send them on suicide mission, Torque gives them something that goes boom, you give them encouragement to die gloriously or come back safely, your pick.

I don't think anyone takes what happens in the Introduction threads seriously.
And if they do, they probably won't "fit in" anyway.

Face it; we're a small forum with a rather small group of members who have been active here for a loooong time. Stuff like that tends to create a special kind of atmosphere and a number of inside jokes.

But we should, perhaps, tone it down a notch when around newbies.

I like new members, I really do, especially when they post good stuff and share pictures and modeling tips and such, but then again I really like this forum the way it is too.
Great old one

It also tends to create cliques, and makes the board an unwelcoming place. IMO we could do with a little less rampant RP talk.
"While I commend the empire for completing this powerful battlestation I was troubled to read about the installation of an exhaust port that leads 'directly to it's hyper sensitive power core' I was further disturbed to hear this opening described as 'torpedo sized' "

Don't say anything that you would find in good humour yourself, once you were a newbie just like them.
