Aubrey sat in her carriage, creating lists of items that needed to be taken care of at home. Dayv was in charge, always but taking care of the workings of the house, making sure that everything was done his way, that was Aubrey's specialty. Of course, they didn't have or need the staff that they had had back in Askavi and Aubrey kind of missed it. It was much harder to make sure that everything was done perfectly with less people to utilize.

Of course, she hadn't left without a half dozen guards. She was a red queen and it was important that she stayed safe. She still didn't understand Dayv's plan in full but she knew that it was important she stay safe. Aubrey would do whatever was necessary in order for Dayv's plans to come to fruition. Of course, she knew that the guards were smart and good at what they did. Dayv would never let anything happen to her.

No matter what her feelings though, Aubrey was a queen and when she felt the guards become agitated, she sent a thread to them. The voice that came back was nervous but insisted that everything would be fine, all she needed to do was shield the carriage. So that was what she did. She put a red shield around the carriage and continued the planning that she had already started.

Then the sounds of fighting began. Aubrey tilted her head up to the ceiling, closing her eyes to sense who was outside of the carriage. As a few screams filled the air, she found two of her guards dead and two dying while a few dozen jhinkas filled the air around them. She opened her eyes with a sigh and sent out a thread, begging for help on the red. Anyone lighter than that would be of no use in this situation. She needed someone darker to help her.

Than she sat back and waited, trying to find the panic that she was supposed to feel but when everyone had always made sure she was safe, she didn't feel the need to panic. Oh well. Hopefully someone would come help her. Otherwise she was going to have to do something.

Cesran looked at one of the long blades that Geron the Blacksmith made for him and his followers. Each one was training in multiple types of weapons, he himself preferred to use a single edged long blade, for its superior cutting power in melee combat, but his favorite weapon was to use the recurved longbow. He was amazing with it, even without using craft. All of those that were under his command trained in how to use weapons. They had plenty of mock weapons back at the camp to find out which weapon a fighter was good at or if they wanted to get good at a weapon. When they were good enough to hold their own against him, he went and got them a metal weapon as a sign they were ready to go out on patrols.

“Excellent work as always Geron how much do I owe you for all of the weapons?” He asked as he waited for the smith to give him the tally. Geron sympathized with the cause and he only charged Cesran the value of the materials that he used. For that Cesran was very grateful for. He called in the gold marks he had brought with him as Geron gave him the bill and he looked up longingly at Geron’s prized weapon. It was a recurve bow that was made out of materials like none Cesran had ever seen. Geron had gotten it from a merchant and paid a fortune for it and wanted a fortune for it too. Cesran could afford it, but he didn’t need it so he wasn’t going to get it, even if he did want it.

He heard the call for help, it was faint and the only reason it probably did reach him as that it was on the red thread. He vanished the weapons quickly, “See you around Geron.”

He sent off a quick message to his second in command who was also at the small village that Geron’s shop was in right at the border of the forest and Dayv’s protected territory. His second asked him if he needed any help and Cesran sent back that if he did he’d call. His Grey could reach incredible distances when he needed it too, so he’d be able to contact his second if he needed to.

He hurried out of the blacksmith’s shop fast and he caught the Winds as soon as he could. He rode the Grey winds as he held onto the red thread letting it guide him. He dropped from the winds and he swore furiously as he stepped onto the battle field. About 20 Jhinkas were attacking a single carriage, they had killed all of the guards and were throwing themselves against the red shield.

Cesran sent on a red thread as he called in his longbow and arrows. He put sapphire power on the tips of the arrow as he knocked it and he fired at the first Jhinka. The arrow flew right into the chest and the power went off taking two others with it as the Sapphire power rebounded off the red shield.

** I’m here just continue to hold the shield. ** Cesran sent out on a red threat as he got ready for the Jhinkas to attack him. He fired at the Jhinkas as they rushed towards him, some on their feet others in the air. He sent out a band of power as the Jhinkas were to close for his arrows to be effective without catching him in the blast, not that it would hurt him as he had on a skin tight Grey shield that he always wore.

He switched his bow for his long blade and he started the dance. His blade flash out the cold steel became hot as blood ran down it. He dodged as many as he could as he found the cold clarity of battle. He could see each of his enemies’ moments as he combine steel and Power to cut down Jhinka after Jhinka. He could feel a couple of blows against his shield, but nothing the Jhinkas did could get through his shield. There weren’t enough of them to drain his grey shields.

As his blade sliced through the torso of the last Jhinka he scanned the area for the red shield to see if it was still up. Cesran reached out on a Red thread, ** Are you all right in there? **

Aubrey had never worried over her safety. Even if someone was going to cause her pain, she would enjoy it so there was nothing to be worried about. Maybe Dayv's ridiculous plan of making her ruler of Hayll was a bit preposterous but that didn't mean she wouldn't figure out how to make things work. When Aubrey thought about it, how bad was being attacked by jhinkas when compared to running an entire territory, having to heal it all and be its leader. That was scary. Jhinkas were pretty pathetic in comparison.

When a voice finally came to say that help was there, Aubrey called in a nail file and began working on a chip in her ring finger nail. Every once in a while, the carriage shook as a body flung against the wall. Aubrey didn't know if the jhinka was trying to get in or if the body was thrown but she didn't care much. The blood soaking into the land would give her a bit of a high when she was finally free of the carriage. Speaking of the carriage, she really missed the carriage they had in Askavi. It was so much more comfortable thanks to being designed to hold the wings of an eyrien.

Ah well. She thought with a sigh.

When the all clear finally came, Aubrey vanished the nail file and called in a mirror. She rubbed her eyes a smidgen, causing them to redding and moisten, looking as though she were about to cry. It is what was expected of her and so she made it look like what she was doing. Slowly, she put her hand on the carriage door and opened it. She looked around at the carnage and couldn't help but think that Dayv would very much appreciate this mess. It was going to help his plan a lot.

She closed the door, timidly looking around it to see the male who had come to her rescue. A grey warlord prince was rather startling and she let that emotion show. "I am fine thank you." Again she looked around as the door clicked, securely closed. "Are you alright?"

Cesran used craft to clean the blood off his warblade and he looked over the edge for any knicks in the blade that he would have to get repaired. The edge had a grey shield over it, but in the heat of the battle sometimes the backlash of power from the shields could damage that which it was made to protect. It didn’t happen often, but he still checked his blade to make sure it’s edge was as razor sharp as ever. He heard the door open and there was nothing that he could do about the carnage that he had wrought. He didn’t care either as he was still riding the killing edge even though this battlefield was over. He wasn’t covered in a bit of gore although the ground was soaked in blood.

“You should stay in the carriage.” His voice was flat and emotionless, but his eyes were full of molten rage. He could hurt her…he would hurt her if she proved herself to be a threat. He didn’t think that women were the weaker sex. There were women among his group of rebels who were more vicious with the Jhinka than Cesran could ever dream to be. For him he wanted to just kill all the Jhinkas that were in Hayll…the witches though…death wasn’t enough for them.

Cesran watched her as she closed the door and he kept his shields up around himself. “Who are you and what are you doing out here?”

He wasn’t too impressed with the witch before him. She was focused on him instead of the destruction that was all around her, and she didn’t ask where her guards were. He supposed that it was a bit obvious to what happened to them, but he expected her to show some emotion. So either she was a heartless bitch or she was hardened to fighting. He suspected the former, but wouldn’t have been surprised by the latter. She sounded timid, but didn’t act like it. It was rubbing him the wrong way. The fact that she was a queen wasn’t helping either.

His instincts were to protect was warring with his critical thinking skills. He wasn’t going to lose himself to the rage as he did before. The rage was there ready to be unleashed unless he got some honest answers.

Aubrey tried to focus on the male who had saved her. She tried with a great deal of energy to not let the scent of the blood draw her away from the conversation she was having with him. Of course, she knew this wouldn't be considered a conversation in some circles but since he was a warrior who seemed to still be riding the killing edge, Aubrey would let the semantics drop. The blood was quickly filling her nostrils and making her light headed. She couldn't help but glance at the ground to the left of the man, swallowing hard to keep both the rush of energy that bordered on panic from taking over. Panic in purity? No. It was more a panic of anticipation. Blood meant something good was coming down the line.

Aubrey's eyes snapped to the man before she answered him. "My name is Aubrey. I am on my way to pick up a sword from a man named Geron. It is a gift..." Aubrey's eyes now darted to the left for a moment as her head swirled. She reached out to place a hand on the carriage and help stabilize herself but the sticky red blood that she felt was still warm to the touch. She pulled her hand off and looked down at it in shock for a second. It was always amazing to her how blood, even blood of the dead, felt so alive. Her breath became heavy as her vision blurred around the edges. "A gift for my..." Her voice was soft as she began to sway. As she fell to her knees, she softly uttered one word.

"Frondar."

Cesran watched the queen as she stayed near the carriage and he moved towards her. He vanished his warblade and he moved to help her. “Come on let’s get away from here.”

He tried to lead her away and to put his body between her and the devastation that he had wrought. “Lucky for you I was at Geron’s today.”

Cesran caught her before she could fall all the way to her knees and he moved to lift her up into his arms, “Well whoever this Frondar is I’m sure his gift can wait until you are all right.”

He looked to the carriage and it was too gore covered, he didn’t want to bring it back in that condition. He’d come back later to get carriage and he put a sapphire shield around the carriage to keep it safe. “Hold tight.”

Cesran found the Green Wind and he launched him and Aubrey to catch the Green Wind to take them back to the village.

******************

Cesran and Aubrey landed at the landing web of the village, “Are you feeling better?”

He asked briskly as he slowly went to put her down. His instincts were at war with each other. He didn’t trust her as she was a strange female, but she was a Queen in distress and he wanted to protect her as well. He took a deep breath to reign himself in as he was still close to the Killing Edge and hadn’t had a change to pull himself all the way back yet. It had been a while since Cesran had been around a Queen in particular a dark queen.

“Perhaps you should go see a healer just incase.” Cesran suggested as he looked down at the smaller Queen. Hopefully she would go to the healer and he could have a moment to figure out what was going on.
