Ralph,
Think I know what you mean, but why would such stalwart followers all desert at once? They've never shown signs of  dissent before, quite the opposite!

Alexander,

Indeed, it's most probably a combination of these factors ...

Unlikely their collective health is at issue.

As for myself, I was hit by a car 3+ weeks ago. Sustained various injuries, including a broken wrist that severely limits my typing at any great length for the next several weeks at a minimum.

Yet here I am.

P,
My best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery, plus a satisfactory legal outcome. A musician friend and his wife were in a head on collision just after Christmas last. Both spent six months in hospital with horrific injuries. Woman who caused the accident suffered a broken ankle.

I wonder if the absence of those excellent contributors is a sign of the times. I think we might be witnessing the death and obsolescence of the home computer.Technologies change. Letter writing is long a lost art, largely with the advent of the telephone and maybe the typewriter. Now with the cellphone, you don't even have to get home, compose yourself, and make a bit of a production out of a call. Now just fire off a quip.

With the computer, you could sit and ponder, elaborate on your point and explain yourself fully and at ease. The cellphone quip comes so much easier even if it leaves readers wondering what you meant. Just like the old letter writers asked themselves why should I bother when I can just give a call, maybe the old posters are saying I don't do all that work and stuff anymore now I got my instant phone.

Another blow to the great pleasure of deep thinking and reflection and deep thinking music as well.

Alex, I am just catching up with this forum now. Thank you so much for your concern. The accident endured by your friends sounds horrific. My own, while initially much more painful and debilitating than it is now, was, I am grateful to say, not on that devastating scale.
