Thanks to Bob Black for sharing this memory with us, Bix fans.

"My Dad, Robert Black from Battle Creek, Michigan, went to Northwestern Dental School in Chicago from 1930 to 1934 and he played trumpet with a 10 piece orchestra at the Drake Hotel to help finance his education. Anyway, back in 1927 he and a buddy of his used to go from Battle Creek to Detroit to hear the Goldkette Orchestra at the Graystone Ballroom. Here is a short recording that I made of my Dad back on 11-20-87 telling me a little about his listening to who turned out to be Bix in the band. My Dad was born 6-8-08."

It just aches to hear from him in 1987, and think that he was only 5 years younger than Bix.
