Gil Evans' "Davenport Blues." All of Bix's tasteful creation gone!

I must say that I can't hear any traces of Bix here....or Gil Evans!!..... but lots of superb Jean Sablon. The main strain in the chorus of this tune is quite like Django's Nuages. Sablon is such a great singer.....and some of his best sides were coincidentally recorded with Django!

Sorry to have to report that I also like Gil Evans' "Davenport Blues", which can be found here:-

I have a feeling that Bix would have enjoyed Evans' harmonic explorations. And maybe even the lovely trumpet playing of Johnny Coles.

I had been listening to lots of Sablon's 30s recordings (reminiscing the songs of my childhood) and picked up the wrong url. One of my favorites:

I think Coles was always underrated because of the Miles Davis comparisons.

Correct link for Gil Evans' "Davenport Blues"" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ok3f0a3g-g

And sorry, Albert, but I LOVE this recording. It does full justice to the beauty of Bix's piece and demonstrates just how far ahead of his time he was. Indeed, I like to think that if Bix had made it to 1960 he'd have been playing much the way Johnny Coles does here.
