What a great site. Especially since for so much of the decade, drums were almost unrecordable. Funny that the ODJB had such great recording engineering with Victor in 1917 while other drummers were clacking on woodblocks or muffled cymbals.

I notice that their list of heroes does not include Gene Krupa.  (Sure, the majority of his recorded work is from the 1930's or later--but that's also true, for example,  of Sonny Greer, who is on the list.)

They were explaining including Tony Sbarbaro, as his 'significant appearance' on wax was 1917. Actually Sonny Greer was with Ellington before 1920, I think.
