I'm not sure if this has come up before, but it can be filed under "Bix references in movies and television".

The other day I caught an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents" called "Forty Detectives Later" with James Franciscus as a detective trailing Jack Weston, a book/record shop owner. I had to smile when the detective stumbles across a stack of Paul Whiteman records and says he's looking for ones with Bix on them.

The mention of Bix at about 8 minutes. Fletcher Henderson mentioned at about 9 min. Later on King Oliver and the ODJB are cited. Bix mentioned again at 23 min.

I remember seeing this one as a rerun when I was a teenager.  It fed my early fascination with Bix and fueled my obsession with finding Bix records in resale shops.  But in northeastern Wisconsin, no matter how many thousands of scuffed 10 cent (later 25 cent and still later one dollar) 78s I put through my hands, I hardly ever found a Bix, even with Whiteman.  Lots of big band, polka, Dick Jurgens, Lawrence Welk, Bob Wills, and Andre Kostelanetz, but scarcely a Bix to save your life.  My great day was a NORK Gennett ("Tin Roof Blues")--25 cents.  I worried the cashier would detect my excitement and raise the price.
