Sven Bjerstedt points out that the Jan 6, 1944 recording of "Honeysuckle Rose" by Cootie Williams's Sextet includes a four-bar quote from "In a Mist", played twice (0:21–0:25 and 2:33–2:38).
Sven writes: " I attach a transcription of the most conspicuous melody phrase, which is the very first two bars of "In a Mist", quoted with minor alterations in bars 9–10 of Cootie Williams's 1944 "Honeysuckle Rose" rendition.
Thank you, Sven.
The first five notes of In A Mist are similar to the first five notes of Honeysuckle Rose. Was Fats Waller inspired by InA Mist?
