I noticed some comings and goings.

Sr. 6-2 MB Ashley Murry transfers to Florida State which hurts Long Beach St.

Jr. OH Mickayla Sherman is no longer on the team which hurts UC Riverside.

Cal Poly gets So. 6-2 Jaime Stivers a transfer from Duke.

UCSB gets Jr. 5-10 OH Torre Glasker a transfer from Utah.

Hawaii gets Sr. 5-2 libero Tita Akiu a transfer from Texas Tech.

A note about UCI.

Coach Ashlie Hain was extremely proud that 12 UCI players registered over a 3.0 GPA during the Fall Quarter.  12 that is a lot.  Usually when a coach brings in better players and has more success winning the team GPA dips down rather than goes up.  So great job on the academic side by Coach Hain.  Maybe that shouldn't surprise me as Coach Hain herself graduated Cum Laude at UCI.

LBS

As Joy once did (w a Debbie Green makeover), she's going to have to "convert" a new setter. Otherwise, it's the 6'1' SO Serbian (and she only). Edit: Carly Aigner-Swesey
Libero: Harward

Outside Hitters: the Czech, NU xfer-Kash Williams/Gigi Alex in for passing&digging, Top 100 Senior Ace Allison Martinez

Middles: Xue and Norveel and, ?, 6'4"-Kirst ? (...LB is asking imo for MBs on VT)

Recruit Castaneda *for UH* is a four-yr. 4.0/honors student. A.P. classes in economics, I assume, toward academic's scholarships.

They could still take a last minute xfer IF desired. I think.

LB and UH will be atop the BWC this season. Santa Barbara will be young, in general. Cal Poly will be hurting for a setter, as I've already intimated; Torrey's focus is truly on the beach (w Todd), and she's good but I wouldn't say that she's spectacular. The Duke transfer could stun moreover.

Kirst, you can lock in at the opp.  She started off slow last year (injured), but she was the most improved player over the course of the season and proved to be a solid blocker.

Norveel, Xue @ MB, & Kirst at the Opp should be solid for LB

everything else is the question mark  - especially need an all-around OH that can pass and terminate, desperately need out of the two new frosh to stand out as an OH

passing is a real problem, and Alex isn't a likely high performing solution

god, I have no clue what 'convert' a new setter means.....that sounds downright scary if that's the case

I Q Kirst.

Anyway.

UH 2019 (...as it would hold):
It starts at Setter(s): Norene Iosia and Shar Rae Nui (Hilo xfer via Salt Lake City/Haili all-star/KHS (Hi.1st-teamer))

Left-hitters: a European Hammer and Kristen Sibley, The (SJ) Mercury News P.O.Y. // Tawa Top 100 Riley Wagoner and McKenna Ross, 5'10" Defensive Specialist whose father was quite the even-Pro athlete (w/ daughter#1-Kayla (Olympic gold medalist))

Right-side Opposite: HI Gatorade P.O.Y. Braelyn Akana and RS-Fr. Kamalei Krug, of Manoa Beach VBC

Libero: Presley Forbes (CBVA w "AAA," youngest rated @10 y.o.)

Blockers: 6'5" CN Superb 75 (HS) and Skyler Williams, Starlings VBC, USA 2016 P.O.Y. and Sophia Howling, TAWA Top 100 Senior Ace // Nigerian-Amber Igiede.<--She's one that I'm most anticipating @6'3". She'll be a LA small schools 3x all-state, she's got offers going from places like Stephen F. Austin and (Southern) Black-ish A&M colleges, she's an athletic-academic who's been prodded by the ranked B1G schools and the PAC's Stanford.

Have no idea how well the transfer from Duke, Jamie Stivers, 6'2 OH, will fit at CAL POLY.

My guess she is possibly the replacement for the graduating senior, Raeann Greisen.
