Late bogies on hole 8 and 9 and a double bogie cost UCI a better standing after round 1. UCI ends the day tied for 7th in a tight race for third. UCI is +2.
Unranked Iowa State is powering through the field going -10.
#43 Kansas is 2nd at -7, #7 Alabama -6, #31 TCU -5, #18 Stanford -3, #30 Oregon +1, #42 Colorado +2.
#6 LSU had a rough day ending +5 and tied in 10th. #19 USC is worse off finishing +7 in 12th and is lucky that North Dakota State is +10 with 1 player left at hole 18.

Indivdually
Ramiz Jamall had a strong day for UCI at -3 tied 8th in a tight race.
David Kim is not too far behind finishing even par on the day in a tie at 27th.
Leading the way Daniel Sutton from Kansas, #48 Brandon Wu from Stanford and Ryan Han from UC Davis at -5.

The important thing to know is that the top 5 teams advance.

7th place UCI is 5 strokes behind 5th place stanford.

UCI's Jamal is 2 strokes behind 1st place & advancing as an individual.

UCI currently in 8th at 9-11 holes played with minor gains of -3 but other teams are making jumps. UNGC vaults ahead going -8 so far in the day. Ranked teams are not relinquishing their leads much except for Colorado. Iowa St is struggling today and has lost the top spot to Kansas.

It appears UCI is out of it after the second round. They would need to make up 14 strokes on the final day, which seems extremely improbable, to have any chance at qualifying for the next tournament.

Kim is doing pretty well, though. He scored a 70 today and has a shot to finish in the top ten with another good round tomorrow.

Numerous bogies and a couple double bogies on the back 9 were disastrous today.

Kim turned in a 74 on the final round, which pushed him in to the middle of the pack. He finishes tied for 30th. Overall, UCI did poorly relative to the field. I guess they were outclassed at this level.

Too many mistakes, bogies, double bogies, triple bogies which at this level is just too much. UCI does have capability to get to the next round, but just had a very poor 2nd and 3rd round.

They finished 1 spot higher than their regional seeding of 12.

How are golf postseason bids determined? Obviously the winner of the league championship gets the auto bid, but there are at larges too right?
