Everybody who is going into their Soph or JR year goes out to play somewhere and the coaches try to make sure the players are at the appropriate level, i.e. the best guys go to the Cape then there are leagues a level below that, like the Northwoods in the upper Midwest.  Irvine's coaching staff usually has a bunch of guys in the West Coast League up in OR and WA.

Interesting that Rashi isn't going somewhere for summer ball - yet.  I'm pretty sure he didn't expect to be coming back to Irvine for his SR year so that's why he didn't get a summer ball assignment lined up.

Interesting story:  I was up in Bellingham last Wednesday and the Walla Walla Sweets were staying in the same hotel for their series against the Belles.  I asked a coach if any UCI guys were on the team.  He said two were coming, but hadn't shown-up yet because of post-season play.  I broke the news to him that UCI didn't get a regional bid and were done before Memorial Day.  He looked puzzled as he walked to the bus with some of the players.

Dylan Riddle / Ryan Johnston are the two. Reason why they haven't shown up yet is because school hasn't ended yet, although it should soon. I think it's right around finals week right now. Remember, UCI is quarterly so school extends into June while Semesters are done since last month.

Okay, that would explain it.  You'd think the WW coach is better informed.  Just odd he'd say UCI had a regional bid.

Well, that's a natural assumption if he's going off the top of his head.
UC Irvine has a decent program, their players aren't here yet, it's tournament time, so they could be in the postseason.
Especially when his focus is on the team before him.

From the SB paper:

John Jensen belted a grand-slam home run among his three hits to power the undefeated Santa Barbara Foresters to a 9-3 baseball victory over the Arroyo Seco Saints at Jackie Robinson Field in Pasadena on Wednesday.

"He's hit in every game for us," Foresters manager Bill Pintard said of the former Santa Barbara and SBCC star. "He's really going to help UC Irvine next season."

Jensen went 3-for-5, adding a double to his second-inning homer, while driving in five runs. He also stole a base.

Former SBCC standout John Jensen homered for the second consecutive game and Michael Hobbs shined on the mound to lead the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 13-0 thumping of the Orange County Riptide on Thursday. Santa Barbara's third straight road game this week produced the team's sixth straight win to start the season. Jensen, who is headed to UC Irvine on a baseball scholarship, belted a two-run homer one day after hitting a grand slam in the Foresters' 9-3 win over Arroyo Seco on Wednesday.

From D1 Baseball.  He played 3B at SBCC and is playing LF this summer.

John Jensen, Junior, L/R, OF, Santa Barbara Foresters (Santa Barbara CC)

6-foot-1, 190 pound, strong athletic frame with little remaining physical projection. Due to his build, he might get a little stiff as he matures. Similar body type to former Giant, Jeff Kent. Offensively, he has good lift to his swing with quick hands and the ability turn on pitches and do some damage. Doubles kind of power but definitely has some pop in his bat. Can drive pitches to all fields. Not afraid to go the other way if he needs too. Could see him being a 15-plus homer guy. Above average runner underway; timed him at 4.35 down the line from the left side. Defensively, he is a pretty good athlete who can play all four corners. I see him sticking at first base or right field. Has a pretty good arm that would play in right. Overall, Jensen is a versatile defender who will find his way into the lineup where he can showcase his offensive skills. Definitely a guy to follow this year as he is transferring from Santa Barbara City College to UC Irvine.

Looks good, but I doubt the 15+ HR projection with half of the games played at Anteater Ballpark.  Only a pure power hitter can reach that number.

I think the 15+ HR comment is more of a pro ball projection for Jensen.
