France is playing Belgium in the semis on Tuesday with tomorrow's winners playing in the other semi on Wed.
Looks like it was done to prevent the possibility of the same teams of a group from meeting earlier in the KO rounds.

Actually, it's just the way the brackets were set from group play's #1 and #2 teams.  So, yes, two teams wouldn't play each other twice in the tournament unless those teams from the same group made it to the finals.

Well we will only have 1 more World Cup with this format and after that it's 48 teams and groups of 3 which sound horrible.

History and politics aside, it's going to be hard for me not to pull for the host team tomorrow to keep Cinderella dancing.  England-Sweden should be a good one.  I've kind of gotten attached to the Swedes' team and would prefer they moved on to the semis.

Hoping to see more PK's for England just for the drama that it makes that entire country go through, LOL.

I briefly looked-up the 2022 WC.  They'll be in Qatar in November-December of that year due to less hell-like weather and a national holiday.  Odd that such a small country will be hosting.  One way to get your team into the competition.  Just ask Russia.

I am in Trogir, Croatia (just outside of Split). Just finished watching the Croatians advance, with an enthusiastic celebration in the old town that continues as it nears midnight here.

There aren't many hard feelings for Russians here...Yugoslavia went its own way from the USSR right after WWII and was never part of the Eastern Bloc.

Now, if Croatia were to meet Serbia, Bosnia/Herzegovina or Montenegro...well, game on. There's still some bitterness from 1991-95, when Croatia battled for its independence from the rump Serbia-dominated Yugoslavia.

Yes, summer vay cay. Started in Dubrovnik, have been here the last 3 and we drive up to Plitvice Lakes this morning (we are 9 hours ahead of PDT). Tomorrow, we drive into Istria region, dump the rental car, take a bus through Slovenia into Trieste, transfer to the train system and start 10 days in Italy.

Superb. Any particular reason you chose to visit Croatia?
