What will Priceline do if my Credit Card has no funds?

Hi I am Leandro from Argentina. After several rejections I bid $88 for a hotel and got this screen:

We're sorry, the amount of this transaction exceeds the available balance on your credit or debit card and we could not process this request. Your card has not been charged for Request Number 100-020-040-02.

If you can use another credit card or a different Visa or MasterCard branded debit card, you can try this same request again by entering your billing information below.

Once you click "Buy My Hotel Room" we will submit your request again. You'll know in just 15 minutes if your price is accepted. If your offer is accepted, we'll immediately charge your credit card.
Then, I noticed under "my trips" the numbers of all my failed bids, and  to mi surprise when I click on the one from the $88 bid, I got the "No funds screen" with the option of entering a new Credit Card and getting the deal. My girlfriend had a 3d credit card we could use, we tried it and we got the $88 deal! Even though a $92 bid had just failed. It seems Priceline put my $88 bid on hold for more than 24 hours, waiting for the right card.

So while I am happy I could get the deal, now I am worried. If they keep that deal for me, are they keeping my $93 bid too? Will they attempt to charge me next month when my credit returns? As you can see the screen you get states clearly that my card hasn't been charged, and that they would only charge it if I click the "buy my hotel room" button. Also my bid was stored under "unsuccessful request". So what dou you think,  will they try to charge me next month? Thank you!

It sounds to me like the pre-authorizations from your re-bidding are taking a long while to be removed from your debit card. This is often a problem at hotels, too, which will pre-authorize an amount when you check-in, for incidental charges. The hold-funds is placed immediately, but can take up to a week for the banks to lift after being released by the hotel (or Priceline). For example, if you have $600 in the account and check in to three hotels over three days, and each hotel preauthorizes $200, after the third check-in, you will have zero available cash in the debit account, until those pre-authorizations fall off. In the meanwhile, you will not be able to withdraw those monies from your account, and checks may bounce if it is a checking account. This is why it is NOT advisable to use a debit card, if you can use a credit card. Credit card preauthorizations are removed immediately.

Regarding your main question, I think you have nothing to worry about, for two reasons. Firstly, Priceline will not try to charge your card again unless you return to that TryAgain-screen and click on "Buy My Hotel Room". Secondly, if you do try to double-book, Priceline automatically looks for overlapping bids and trips to prevent inadvertent duplicate bookings, and will give you a warning screen about it, and present you with an option to proceed or cancel. I found that out one time when I was buying a room for my Dad in one city, while I had a room already booked for myself in another city for the same night. Finally, if for some reason you do end up with a double booking, Priceline would likely have no problem canceling the duplicate for you, if you call them.

Thank you very much for your help! Just one thing, I did my bids using Credit Cards, not debit Cards. It might be different in the US, but in argentina you have a limit to spend each month with your card, (they won't allow to spend more that what they think you can pay) after you reach your limit, you can't spend anymore until you pay the bill.

I don't think they kept the pre authorization in my credit card, but they did keep the reservation leting me use another card to pay for it, it's quite strange!
