I just arrived home from a one night stay at the Westin Bayshore. I paid $140 for the room through Priceline (total with tax $171.21). Also paid $26 + $1.41 tax for valet parking.
The receptionist was very friendly and polite during our check-in. She did not mention Priceline during our check-in. Signing up for the Starwood Preferred Guest membership (free) prior to arrival was beneficial. Members are checked in separately from other hotel guests. As a member, I did not have to wait in line.
I was given a standard room in the older section of the hotel. The entire hotel is non-smoking. Unfortunately, the rooms with a king size bed were not available. There was no mention of "paying" for an upgrade.
Although the Westin is a four star hotel, my room was not very impressive. The decor desperately needs to be upgraded! Paint had chipped from the doors, the wall paper had several stains, and the curtains were outdated. The bathroom is also quite small.
The room, however, was clean and did provide standard Westin amenities. (hair dryer, iron, robes, and signature bed to name a few.) The room also had a nice view of the harbor and pool. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. If I had to pay full price, I would probably stay elsewhere.
One thing that did shock me...the hotel charges for everything! I would warn everyone to watch out and be careful. Here are some examples:
Bottle of Water: $5.95
Movies: $10.99 and up
Internet: $14.95 plus taxes for 24 hours
Room service: delivery charge of $3.50, 15% gratuity is also
added to your bill
Local and 800 numbers - $1.49 for up to 60 min.,
each additional minute is $0.10
Long distance - hotel surcharge of $2.25 (does not
include long distance fees)
International: hotel surcharge of $4.50
Food and drinks (alcohol) were also overpriced. However, this seems typical for most hotels.
The location of the hotel is not ideal. It is close to Stanley Park, but a 5-10 minute drive from downtown. This can turn into a 30 minute drive (or longer) with evening traffic.
As a Starwood Preferred Guest Member, check-out was a breeze! I spent less than 30 seconds (honestly) at the counter.
