Well, for the first time, Priceline failed me on airline tickets. This was a Sat.-Sat. flight, and checking airfares on other websites, I found the lowest airfare to be $291 for the same dates. I made a request on Hotwire and was given a total price, taxes and fees included, of $229.

Went to Priceline and started out with a bid of $160+10 Bonus (non-jet OK). Failed. Added red-eye OK and upped bid to $170+10 Bonus. Failed. Added Joplin Regional and upped bid to $180+Bonus. Failed. By this time I realized Priceline's taxes and fees of $45 wouldn't make any higher bidding worthwhile, and I accepted Hotwire's offer.

The interesting thing about this experience is that Priceline continually came back with counter offers of between $224-229 PLUS the $45 tax and fee total. Nowhere near the deal I got on Hotwire.
