Since there is no review for the Serrano, I thought I'd post.
Stayed there in the fall of "04. The lobby is very pleasing.
The check-in clerk was friendly. Asked for and received a smoking room on a high floor. It was a clean corner room with a good view of the skyline. No mention of priceline. The room was on the smallish side but more than adequate for a single person. The bathroom was impeccable, with large towels and an assortment of lotions. A robe was provided. Every morning two papers at the door. Free coffee in the lobby. Winetasting in the evening from 5 to 6. Good instructions from the concierge and bell crew who guided me to the Sports Bar so I could watch my beloved Steelers.Close to Union Square and Powell St. where the cable cars turn and to the BART station and the train that takes one to the airport. A very nice boutique hotel and well worth the $81 on PL.

Stayed here for one night 6/19/05. No mention of PL on check-in, asked only for a non-smoking room; was given a nice room with 2 double beds on the 16th floor. Room was on the small side (not much space around the beds) and bathroom was compact, but both were attractive and well-equipped. Nice touches including Aveda bath products in bathroom, robes provided. Concierge was helpful, nice wine reception in lobby every evening from 5 to 6 PM. Great location within a couple of blocks of Union Square. Well worth the $77 I bid.

Received very gracious and personal treatment during our stay. Very attentive service without being intrusive. Hotel was decorated very lovely for the holidays and blended well w/its Italian-Moroccan ambience. Classier and more fesitvely decorated than many of the large, chain hotels nearby. Was upgraded to a King. Being a boutique hotel, room was a bit on the small side, but furniture was selected to maximize space. Room and bathroom were exceptionally clean; however, bathroom is quite small, w/pedestal sink. No vanity other than a very small counter above sink (which was taken up w/hotel toiletries) so no space for curling iron, make up, etc. However, fluffy, leopard skin-patterned robes were provided complimentary. All rooms have safes, another nice feature. We were on the 10th floor--very quiet. Not sure due to being Thanksgiving holiday, or just that we were up so high. At check-out, had requested our luggage be held, due to late-in-the-day departure, and they readily accommodated by placing behind a locked door. Would definitely recommend hotel, unless someone has to have a bathroom where s/he can "spread out." NOTE: If you're looking for a great breakfast, but probably a 30-minute wait in line, try Dottie's True Blue Cafe around the corner on Jones Street. A bit of a dive, but certainly safe in daylight hours, w/omlettes and pastries to die for!

Although I have had a few disappointing experiences with some Kimpton Group hotels, the Serrano was delightful. Staff gracious and helpful; no mention of Priceline and we were "upgraded" to a king room. Agree with above posters as to decor, amenities, etc. and appreciate the info on Dottie's...it was great and because we went early we only had to wait about half an hour. Perfect location for theater-goers!

The Serrano was disappointing at best. Our room and bed were small. It was clean and they did accommodate us with a high floor not facing the street, but it was not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel.
