While Priceline has offered their Name Your Own Price (bidding) service in a few Central and South American cities for several years, we have not seen any evidence this product is mature enough in those areas.  A major issue is that there are no maps provided, which means Priceline could book you into a hotel in any area of the city -although it's likely to be in a central area.  Just as important, there have been no savings reported. See this as an example. It is critically important that you perform just as much rate research as you would if Priceline did not exist.  In addition to many independent hotels, which you would know nothing about if you didn't do your research, many of the major U.S. chains such as Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Best Western, Hilton and Hyatt Regency have locations in these cities.  It would also be useful to check rates at Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz.
