Sheryl,I tried to bid on this car - MSP 7/2 - 7/8 but all the bids got held and i got an email message later saying there was no match or the offer got rejected.  I was only bidding a few days out so it was probably competitive market.

But then, as you had recommended i tried the non-bidding Priceline pages to see what the best offers were.  There i found a priceline > dollar offer that was a good price.  So i purchased it, and i got my reservation number for my wife.

As you may see on your board, i have been getting cars at MSP for years now.  I have never had a problem before in the bidding area.  how ironic that i pay a published price and now i have troubles...

On July 2 she went to the Dollar desk and they said they had no reservation under that reservation number.  Then they said the transaction didn't go through, then they said they had no cars left.  FRUSTRATING.  Priceline called Dollar, I asked them to call the Dollar counter but they could not, they could only call the main number.  But they could not work things out and get us ANY car.

Am I not guaranteed a car when i have a reservation number?  This was not a BID, this was the price they offered the car for.    Its clear they are giving us the run around after offering multiple reasons that the Reservation number was not working.  Clearly Dollar likes Priceline selling extra inventory, but if they have a better offer they give the cars to that individual and they let the Priceline customer fend for themselves.  I asked the priceline people to pay for the difference (my wife got a car for $300) and they suggested they would.

Do you have any thoughts?  How shall i approach Priceline/Dollar to cover my costs?  This seems like a good class action suit, i am sure i am not the first to get this treatment, have you seen it before.  An Attn would love to find a group of people who have all be discriminated against because they bought through a middleman instead of directly from the vendor.

Thanks
Atilla

I'm really not sure what you can do since it wasn't prepaid. I'm sorry this happened to you.

"Prepaid" means that your credit card is charged for the full cost of the reservation at the time it's made. Reservations made through Priceline's non-bidding service are not prepaid; a credit card is not even required to make a reservation, as far as I know. You pay the rental company the full amount when you arrive to pick up the car.

I think you pay when you return the car.

I see. that does make sense because i did not see a charge on my credit card. So there was no quid pro quo so i am in a weaker position. But they did say they reserved a car for me. We shall see.

Thanks

According to the dates in your post, you should have already returned the car. Please clarify.
