3* Embassy Suites Montgomery - Conference Center, 300 Tallapossa St., 36104 (334)269-5055 I-65 Exit 172
Quite a nice city center hotel in a safe area with very close surface parking @ 5/day which we got for two days (Fri/Sat) on a Priceline bid at $52 per day.
These are true suites with a solid door between the rooms unlike the half-partioned fake ones. TV in each room of the suite. All suites have windows to the exterior and the room entrance opens out to a balcony walkway overlooking a soothing waterfall and florae laden atrium. Excellent well trained staff...they all greet you and make eye contact, even the lad sweeping the lobby floor raised his head from the task and asked if we were enjoying our stay.
The daily manager's free evening cocktail party was a welcome addendum as well as the free breakfast with it's omelet/pancake station, but it can become a bit confusing if busy due to a poor physical layout.
This place has the amenities, staff demeanor, cleanliness and aura of a much higher rated hotel.
Your first order of business once you're settled in should be to get to the City Visitors Center which is literaly a few steps from the parking lot and has knowledgeable folks to help you. Next grab the tour trolley which leaves every 20 min. from the front of the Center ($1 round trip with on-off privliges) to gain an idea of which things you might want to go back to explore further. We found the Railroad Thai restaurant next to the Center to be excellent. Something to skip is the nearby un-narrated evening riverboat trip on the Alabama river in the dark...waste of time.
Loved the great southern architecture in this capitol city esp. the landscaped gov't. buildings all in white.
