MCI Compact 5/19 $4.95/day Hertz

Post any instances of Hotwire beating Priceline's price using the exact same bidding parameters. If you cannot illustrate that Priceline could not beat
Hotwire's price, after comparing the total cost with taxes and fees, your post will be removed. The Hotwire rate you use must be their opaque rate where
you don't know the rental car company until after you submit your credit card. Do not use Hotwire's rates directly from the rental car company where
you do not pay in advance. Those are retail rates.

This deal is too good to be true.
Compact $4.95/day + tax/fees $17.53 = $22.48/day
Rental company is Hertz.

I tried bidding on Priceline for $4 for a Compact, rejected.

Booking on Hertz conventionally for a Compact comes out to >$90 + tax

You could have bid $6 on Priceline and the total would have been $22.32, less than Hotwire's total charge, so we do not have proof that Hotwire beat Priceline on this.

When I tried bidding on Priceline, the tax/fees/charges comes out to ~ $19. [At least that was the case when I tried last night. Unless I was too tired and misread the tax/fees.]

I also got a similar deal ($6.95/day for a midsize - $80 total for a 4 day rental) as the original poster this past weekend 6/8-6/12 (didn't try to beat it using Priceline, though.)

Hertz is my normal go-to for rental cars (using a AAA discount which also nets a free additional driver) but it had the one of the highest rates at MCI when I comparison shopped. Lowest for a mid-size was $12/day at Dollar. I was happy to potentially sacrifice a few bucks in savings (assuming Priceline had a better rate) to basically be certain I was getting Hertz. Indeed, when I got the car this weekend, they let me use my AAA card to add an additional driver for free. Probably no guarantee all locations would allow that with a Hotwire bid, but still a great deal regardless!

Plus I got upgraded for free to my choice of a SUV (Ford Escape) or full-size (Chevy Impala) since they were out of mid-sized sedans, something I had also been hoping for.

Thanks again to the original poster for finding this deal!
