Resort fees are prevalent in certain zones. Keep in mind that some hotels charge excessive resort fees which you may be unable to dispute as Priceline now states on their website that these fees are your responsibility.

Mar 21/22, 2014 - 3 1/2* - $161 - Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel (incl continental breakfast) "Waikiki Beach Area"; alot of bidding over a couple of nights, including using a modified version of Verkilub's permutations (8 zones altogether and most were good options until I got down to 3* or 2 1/2* then I had to be more strategic).  I also played around with my dates - I needed 7 nights, but was flexible about moving accommodation and welcomed a variety of locations.

Mar 23, 24, 25, 2014 - 4* - $146 - Hawaii Prince Hotel "Waikiki Marina"; as above, lots of bidding.  In the end, got 23 & 24, waited 24 hours (glad I read that tip on bidding for travel), then added a 3rd night.  It tried to trick me by showing a higher "buy it now" price when I clicked the link in my email, then I went back to my original booking, on the Priceline website, and it then took me to the proper add another night area for the same price.  No problems.

Mar 26, 2014 4 1/2* $184ED - J. W. Marriott Ihiliani Resort "Ko Olina"; I was including this area in my bidding as I really wanted to either be here or up at the North Shore for a couple of nights, but I could hear Priceline chuckling when I was low-bidding from $101 to $160/night when this goes for $595 some nights - seriously.  I was watching Express Deals and it hopped around wildly each time I checked.  Travelocity, expedia, and the Marriott website were all ridiculously expensive.  Then... I saw it for $184 on Express Deals for one night and GRABBED it.  I tried to add a night and it rejected my request.  Darn.  I then purchased 8000 Marriott points ($100), added this to my 32,000 I had from getting a Marriott Visa, and with those 40,000 points, booked a second night (27th).  Phew.  So 2 nights here.

I know all these have resort fees which jacks the price even higher, and sales & hotel tax is painful.  But it's Oahu, and that's the deal.

Yes, Sheryl, I used the biddingfortravel.com link for each and everyone of my probably 200 bids to get these 7 nights.  I appreciate the website and the information it provides.

The Aston Waikiki Beach was.... OK. Great location, breakfast a nice perk, room looked out on air conditioning ducts (1 foot down to roof of building below) and neighbouring hotel.  OK.

The Hawaii Prince was.... AMAZING, and totally worth it.  Beautiful hotel, amazing spectacular ocean view from every room.  Great location a very short walk from all the bus connections at the Ala Moana mall.  Pub downstairs had a pretty good happy hour - we went twice.

The Marriott Ihiliani was.... EVEN MORE AMAZING.  Beautiful location, great room, lovely view, lovely grounds, really enjoyed this at the end of our trip.  We went to the golf course for dinner during happy hour.  Affordable (for Hawaii) and pretty good.  Also went to Roy's during happy hour and over to the Disney hotel outside lounge for dinner during happy hour.  Not bad pricewise (for Hawaii) and tastewise.
