Bid a midsize car for $24 and was rejected, but it offered to bid again.  Increased bid to $25/day and received Hertz.  Cars are much more expensive now than they were in the spring so it was good to save over the published prices.  Used the special link.

If you mean "special link" is our link to Priceline, thank you. If not, what is the special link? That really is expensive for Las Vegas. Hotwire is $26.95/day for your dates.

I agree, it is expensive but still much cheaper than the alternative. A week or two ago, the *prepaid* Avis price with Costco discount for a mid-size was about $255. A day later that price shot up, and the last time I checked all prices on Avis and Hertz had increased significantly, some crazy high. I figured waiting until a day or two out would give me the best Priceline price, but was happy to get in under $200 (barely). I used the link posted at the end of your posts.

One interesting thing is that the actual Hertz reservation is nearly 24 hours longer than what I paid for with Priceline. The Hertz rep says sometimes that happens for Priceline to get the best rate, but I suspect they just rent the car in full 24 hour intervals.

You paid 24 hour intervals. When booking directly, the rental car companies charge hourly for the first few hours after the 24 hour period but with Priceline, you pay a full 24 hours for that portion over the full day.
