Bidding Assistance: 4.5* Kauai Poipu 11/21 - 11/28

Resort fees are prevalent in certain zones. Keep in mind that some hotels charge excessive resort fees which you may be unable to dispute as Priceline now states on their website that these fees are your responsibility.

I've tried bidding up to my limit amount everyday for a week or so using free rebids unsuccessfully. I got no counteroffer either.
Could priceline not have inventory in the bid section yet? Is it still early to bid for these dates?

Your bidding limit is much too low at this time as you can expect 5%-10% less than the counteroffer. Are the dates in the title correct? I know the dates in your request are not. It is possible that your limit will be enough as your dates approach. Express Deals come from the same inventory as bidding. You are just bidding too low.

Please place your Priceline/Hotwire bids/purchases through the link in my signature or by clicking the Priceline/Hotwire banners on the right side of the screen. And please keep Priceline in mind for your conventional travel bookings as well.

Please update your email address in your Yuku profile if it's no longer current and please post all of your bids when you obtain them.

Hi Sheryl, sorry about the incorrect dates in the request - happened due to a copy-paste error. The dates in the title are correct. I've updated the dates in the request below.

What bidding limit would you recommend would be more reasonable? Did you mean 5-10% lower than the express deal or counteroffer? I haven't received any counteroffer. Thanks for your help.

My apologies. I said counteroffer when I meant Express Deal. Please do not ever copy and paste someone else's request because there is no way for us to know if you know what you were responding to. For instance, how do I know if you know what you answered "Yes" to and/or if those rates are really for your exact dates? Without accurate information provided, we cannot assure an accurate response. This is clearly stated on the Bidding Assistance Form topic so you are clearly not the first person who has done this.

Also, you have been a member here for several years yet you have never posted a bid before. Please let us know why. This forum is about sharing.

I never thought of it this way but it appears that Priceline uses the same algorithm for Express Deals as they do for counteroffers. There is no way for an exact prediction as that is proprietary to Priceline but the same 5%-10% rule applies to counteroffers. Counteroffers are specifically addressed in our Hotel FAQ. Express Deals are considered part of the Name Your Own Price product. Priceline specifically told me that when I asked earlier this year. So basically the same rules apply with both services since Priceline considers them a single service.

I didn't know that express deals and bidding have common inventory - this will be helpful, along with the 5-10% rule. Thanks for this info, Sheryl.

I'll start with a blank form next time to avoid errors. I am not a frequent traveler, but have bid a few times since I joined. I have used the BFT priceline link for those bids, but haven't posted my bids - they were always close to existing posts, so I wasn't sure that my post would've added much value. I'll post them from this time.

Here's an unsuccessful bid sequence that I tried today for this trip - 4.5* in Poipu for 11/21 - 11/28; I've upped my bidding limit by $20 to $205, based on your input about my original limit being too low -
Started at $185 with poipu - failed
Added free rebid zone of kaapa at $195 - failed
Started over with poipu + free rebid zone of Princeville at $205 - failed. Got counteroffer of $271 this time, which was considerably higher than their express deal for these dates ($231 after 5% promotional deal). I declined.

I don't want to go above $205 at this stage, so will try again in a couple of days or so to see if the rates reduce.

I think you are bidding too high at this point and I'd wait a lot longer than a couple of days to bid again. Just keep monitoriing the Express Deal.

Please continue to bid through our link to Priceline and do not bid through a Priceline email.

Please post an update the first week in November whether or not you're successful. In the meantime, be sure to book a cancellable backup. Weeklong bids are not always successful. You may want to try a few days and then book the rest conventionally. Just do not do it so it leaves you with a Saturday checkin.

Quick update: I moved my dates out a few days to 11/26 through 12/3. The express deal price remains unchanged at $243. I tried bidding up to $185 today, but was unsuccessful. Hotwire is showing 4.5* beachfront hotel in Poipu for $217 (has been for a week now); I assume this is the Grand Hyatt.
Sheryl, I know you have mentioned in the past that Priceline usually offers a cheaper price on hotels that Hotwire offers. Would you recommend that I hold off a few more days and try priceline again? Thanks.
