Priceline/Hotwire rookie here.  How do you know which hotels will be considered on your name the price bid?  For instance, I am interested in a "resort" in aruba in the Palm Beach area only.  How can I be certain that I get one of those?

Thanks,

Rick

Please look at the Hotel List thumbtacked at the top of this forum for a guide but that's not absolute. You must be willing to select any hotel at the rating you select in the zone you select so study Priceline's map carefully. If you select Resort, you will be guaranteed a hotel with a beachfront location in Aruba.

I can give you a bidding strategy if you post all of the information requested on the Bidding Assistance Form in the Hotel FAQ category which is located in the Hotels forum in the Frequently Asked Questions section near the top of our homepage as a reply to this post.

You've got three positives and one negative. Those rates are not too high. You've got plenty of re-bidding time and your limit is realistic. The only negative I can think of is the Saturday checkin on a holiday weekend and possibly the 7 night stay but the positives do outweigh the negatives.

I would recommend that you bid $90 for Resort and if that is rejected, bid $100 when your 24 hour lockout expires. If that doesn't work, then start a new bid checking in on Sunday at $90 and then $100 again 24 hours later. If that works, then you can try the extend stay feature for Saturday or book Saturday conventionally at the same hotel through Priceline retail which sometimes has good rates. Priceline sometimes requires patience so don't be concerned if you aren't successful yet but I wouldn't bid any higher for at least another week.

Unfortunately the Marriott has been downgraded from a "Resort" to a 4* hotel. That brings the Renaissance into play if bidding on 4* if one is hoping to win the Marriott. That's not a chance I'm willing to take. At least the Westin is on the beach if bidding for a Resort now.

I wonder why they changed. How is it possible the Marriott is is not considered a resort, especially compared with the Westin?

Is it possible that some of the pools are closed for renovation as the Resort rating means multiple pools?
