Well, to say that I am disappointed would be an understatement. I have not known a Millenium Hilton to be a 5* hotel, and this one is on the wrong side of the river from where I want to be.
My original bid of $80 was countermanded with a free re-bid if I raised by bid $20 - $100. I didn't want to change geographical areas, so I went for the $100 and got this.
There are so many nice hotels in Bangkok in the areas I want. I could learn nothing about this hotel at tripadvisor as all the ratings were written during a time of unrest in Bangkok and safety was the only consideration.
I sure hope that it is a lovely hotel and that I have a great time. Lately hotels have really been giving  me bad rooms as punishment for booking through Priceline, and I am tired of it.
Now, if I stay out late, I have to worry about getting back to my hotel and making the shuttle.

Checking through Agoda.com, I find the hotel price to be significantly higher than I paid. $194 to be exact. So I  am now happier!

Don't be so down, It's a very nice hotel, and $100 for a top tier hotel in early January is a great deal.  As for the location on the other side of the river, getting across the river is easy - all of the hotels along the river run shuttle boats to the Thaksin BTS station at least every half hour if not more frequently.  And you are next door to the Peninsula, which is THE deluxe hotel in all of Bangkok.

Frankly, bidding $100 in that zone, you are darn lucky that you didn't get the Amari, which is nowhere near as nice.

The Millenium Hilton is one of the most beautiful hotels in Bangkok, with its own shuttle boat to Sathorn Central Pier. It's certainly no big deal that it's on the Thonburi riverside, one of Bangkok's most exclusive addresses.

The more I have learned about the hotel, the happier I am. I expect that I will have a great time. Thanks for the advice.
