We accessed Priceline through the BFT link.
Yesterday, Thursday November 3, 2016, we needed one room for one night for some clients for the same night, as reported above. Due to our business taking longer than expected, we needed to extend their stay for Friday night as well.
The Westin website lowest rate was $139.00 per night. Priceline's retail site was also at $139.00.
At approximately 1:00 pm today, Priceline had a Southfield 4 Star Express Deal for today at $76.00. (The Westin Southfield Detroit is the only 4 Star Priceline hotel in Southfield).
When I checked again for Express Deals at 5:30 pm, the Southfield 4* Express Deal had disappeared.
When we checked the Priceline confirmation page for the Thursday night stay, we found that we could extend their stay for Friday night, for $78.00. Today, we had more time to bid, so instead
of paying the $78.00, we decided to start bidding at $68.00. Our experience is that Express Deals sometimes can be beat by $10.00 or so by bidding. The hotel front desk had also told our clients that the hotel would not be full this evening.
There are now 13 free rebid zones when bidding on a Southfield Michigan, Four Star hotel. Using the permutation technique, this gives us pretty much unlimited bids.
We were accepted on the first bid at $68.00. While this is the lowest price we have seen on the Westin Southfield Detroit in quite some time, now we will never know if we could have done better by starting even lower. I kind of prefer getting rejected on the first bid, then bid upward one dollar at a time, so when accepted, we know we got the lowest available price (I got into my current profession because I thrive on rejection!)
