4* The Paul Chelsea 09/21-09/25 $182

There are hotels at all quality levels in NYC that can accommodate one bed only. Very risky to bid for one room if your party consists of more than two people.
Please do not ask about this as there is really nothing else to add.

The Paul an Ascent Hotel.  Priceline bid on 08/18 via Bidding for Travel link.  Priceline lists this as a 4* hotel.  Turns out this is a total rip-off, and a Priceline bait and switch.

When we called about the beds, we were told this reservation came with BUNK beds.  To upgrade to separate regular beds would incur a $50 surcharge, plus of course taxes and fees.  It is preposterous Priceline is doing business with a so-called 4* hotel that requires winning bids to stay in BUNK beds.

Since we used Bidding for Travel, we would like your help with Priceline in getting either (1) the room changed to one with two separate regular beds, or (2) the hotel exchanged at no change in price for another 4* hotel in Chelsea.  The Priceline Trip Number is 255-484-113-94.   Thank you.

Thank you for placing your bid through our link to Priceline. Please post your bids when you obtain them.

I definitely agree with you so I suggest you contact Priceline Customer Service. In the meantime, check their website or call them to find out the difference in price.

I spent 40 minutes with Priceline's Customer Service. Totally worthless. It was like talking to robots who kept reciting Priceline's policies. Priceline will only guarantee a room which will accommodate two people, etc., etc. Just garbage.

Quite frankly, I will never use Priceline Name Your Own Price again. If Priceline can not rule out the possibility of people ending up with BUNK beds at a 4* hotel, then Priceline needs to rethink its policies.

Priceline also could not get the room changed even with the surcharge. That would have to be done through the hotel. And get this, in order to do this with the hotel, we would have to send a copy of a driver's license and a credit card to them via email. In this day and age anyone willing to do this is crazy.

That is not true. How is this any different than a Murphy Bed which they have formerly agreed was not deserving of a 4* rating?

We also received The Paul hotel and received bunk beds with an upsell offer upon checkin of $40, that was later reduced to $30, which we declined. This is the only time I've felt priceline let me down, but actually, in the end, it was a quiet, clean hotel, and thanks to the reviews I read, I knew it included breakfast. They did not offer the voucher to me but when I asked they reluctantly gave it to me. Breakfast included a "surcharge" of $1.50/per person which I noticed was not collected from everyone, so I think this is also a priceline only situation. Very strange! The rooftop bar has a happy hour which makes the drink with an amazing view worthwhile. I will post my winning bid in a separate post.
