Used BFT link to start bidding, as always!
I was actually bidding for 3.5* hotels as my sister already has a reservation at the LAX Marriott (3.5*) and I wanted to take a flyer on getting the same hotel (but not so intent on having the same hotel that I was willing to pay regular rates, haha). Started a previous session at $74 and used free rebid zones (there are 6 for 3.5*) up to $86 ($2 increments) w/ no success but at some point there was a counteroffer for $109, I believe. Waited the required couple of hours and started a new session at $87 and went up by $1 increments. Again there was a counteroffer for $109. Among the many valuable lessons this site has taught is never to take the counteroffers!
The lowest Express Deals price in the LAX zone pre-bidding was $96 for a 4* so we achieved a $6 savings off that ($10 if you count taxes/fees). Hilton's best available rate for this night is $146 so of course a much more substantial savings off that. Thanks again, BFT!
