Needed a room for 4/11/15-4/16/15.
Bid 4* properties in Cancun South Hotel Zone using the BFT Priceline Hotels link on 4/7/15. Bid $65 up to $101 with no luck on 4/7/15, using free rebids each time: $65, $71, $80, $85, $101

I booked the Casamagna conventionally via marriott dot com as a backup for the same dates with $199 for the Sat stay and $169 for the rest of the week.

Express deals showed $122/night for 4/11-4/16.

Today (4/7/15), I decided to split up the dates using 4/12-4/16 - again using the priceline hotels icon here on biddingfortravel dot com - with South Zone - $4 and a $65 bid. Got it for the Casamagna Marriott $65 4/12-4/16 for a bid total of $260
+ $60.60 in taxes/fees = $320.60

I still needed to stay on 4/11/15 since we already have our plane reservations, so I tried to use the "add to your hotel dates" feature on my priceline reservation, but it was denied. So I bid - using the priceline hotels icon here on biddingfortravel dot com - with South Zone - $4 and a $100 bid for the 1 night stay for 4/11. Declined, added free rebid zone and $110, declined and added free rebid zone and $115. Accepted - again at the Casamagna. Again - Express deal was $122 for this zone and this star level and the date I needed. Grand total with taxes and fees was $143.67.

Wanted to mention that I didn't expect or need to get the Casamagna. It's a lovely property and we would have been happy at the Westin or whatever else Priceline had given us. I only booked the
Casamagna as a backup because I'm a Marriott rewards member.

I cancelled my backup reservation upon acceptance of the priceline offers.

Thank you for placing your bids through our link to Priceline. This just proves what I frequently say about Saturday checkins. What does surprise me though is when you tried the extend stay feature, you weren't given the chance to pay more since Priceline did have availability.

What is the $4 you referred to twice?

Sheryl, I'm guessing mcbrandt meant 4* not $4. It makes sense when I read it that way.

But, just because it makes sense doesn't make it so!

Sorry for my error using 4$.  In both cases, I did indeed mean 4*.  Thanks for catching that.

How did mcbrandt know that it would be a better deal when splitting to 2 bids of 4/11 and 4/12-4/16? What is special about 4/11?

It was probably a guess based on the rates of her backup reservation. There was likely nothing special about 4/11 otherwise.
