3* Sirata St Pete Beach 6/19-6/22 $120

Resort fees are prevalent in certain zones. Keep in mind that some hotels charge excessive resort fees which you may be unable to dispute as Priceline now states on their website that these fees are your responsibility.

I was gambling on getting the Sirata since some others we are meeting in St Pete had already booked there and we wanted to try to get the same place. Priceline Express didn't seem to be listing Sirata (not many options for St Pete Beach in fact) and while Hotwire had more options and better prices, I wasn't confident that any were the Sirata.

I had won the Sirata a couple years back for about $60 and the posted wins historically were around that price, too. But the prices for 3* on the hotel sites and other transparent sites were about $200/night; even PLE & HW seemed higher ($115 - $150) than I remember... must be busier this time of year. I started bidding at $65 and bumped it up about $10 at a time using free rebid zones until I hit it at $120. I messed up a little on the last (winning ) bid & mistakenly bumped the bid way up from $95 to $120 instead of a smaller $10-15 increment. I suspect that I could have won at around $115? But I never got a counteroffer fron PL - even at $95 - so I don't think I overshot by too much.

I may have been able to get a 3* at same price or a hair cheaper on HW, but I got close to my hoped for price & I got the place I wanted... using the PL link of course.

Thank you for placing your bid through our link to Priceline. If what Hotwire has is the same hotel, it wouldn't have been cheaper. If it is cheaper, it is likely a hotel rated lower than 3* by Priceline.

I'm seeing a $115 3* Express Deal and $113 3* Hotwire Hot Rate that both appear to be for this hotel.

Oh, that $115 hotel on Express Deals didn't specify St Pete "Beach" - it just said St Petersburg Area, so I thought it was in town and I filtered it out. I see a $112 on HW Hot Rates that I think is the same $113 one you are refering to. I was rushing a bit as I was getting some heat to book it... guess I probably overbid by about $15-ish.

I have some more bookings to make fo rthis trip & plan on using PL, so thank you for pointing out those items on PLE & HW... I'll keep a sharper out for those.

The reason Priceline NYOP is cheaper than Hotwire when comparing apples to apples is because Hotwire builds profit into their rate whereas Priceline makes most of their profit from overbids.
