Bid in the SMU/Park Cities zone because I was not thrilled with the prospect of the 3.5* Crowne Plaza over in Marketplace/DAL. And while the 4* Hilton Anatole would have been acceptable, the fact that they charge a 2% fee as well as $20 for parking was a deterrent.
So I started in the SMU/PC zone with 3.5*, eyeing the Doubletree with a list rate of $119, and I bid from $55 up to $65 but was refused. I found that there was a very similar 3.5* Express Deal in that zone for $93 (only when viewed with the Opera Coast browser), and I am guessing that was the Doubletree, but I wasn't willing to bid that high.
I also noted the win earlier today for the 3* Magnolia (former Holiday Inn) at $61 for a stay a few days ahead of mine, and also that user readymade reported a win there almost exactly a year ago for $60. Currently their rack rate for my dates is $130. So I decided to lowball, given the many free-rebids available, and I offered $55. Instantly accepted. Wow, now I wish I'd offered $50.
Finally, I noticed that after winning my bid for the Magnolia, when I checked the Express Deals, it was now unlocked/exposed, and available for $68.
So here I am for 3 nights at the Magnolia, 6070 N. Central Expressway, Dallas, TX 75206.
Check in: Jan 16, 2016 after 3:00 pm
Check out: Jan 19, 2016 before 11:00 am
Offer price: $55/night x 3 nights = $165.
Taxes and fees: $34.14
Total Charges: $199.14.
By coincidence, this turns out to be a good location for me, as it's pretty near someone I plan to visit.
And of course I started my offers by using the links to Priceline here on BFT. Thanks for a great service and community!
