3* Holiday Inn Phoenix West 1/15 only $75

Resort fees are prevalent in certain zones. Keep in mind that some hotels charge excessive resort fees which you may be unable to dispute as Priceline now
states on their website that these fees are your responsibility.

I'm thinking the Hotwire could also be the Best Western Plus, which looks like a fine place as well.  Ugh, such decisions.  I'm on 24 hr lockout to bid 4* Priceline again, so by tonight I'll decide and create a new post with the final win.  Thanks so much for taking the time to help.

The lockout period is only 2 hours. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't wait. The Express Deal is still there, but who knows how much longer it will last. It's possible that a similar deal could come up at another hotel, but do you really want to count on that this close to check-in?

The Hotwire deal wasn't the Best Western; it has fewer than 500 TripAdvisor reviews; the Hotwire listing said that it had more than 1000. Note my use of the past tense in the last sentence -- the deal is gone. Quit overthinking this and make your move.

Kicking myself for not taking the $55 Hotwire 3.5*.  And, the $66 deal never showed for me in either IE or Firefox, even when I did the $40 bid, lost, and then tried to book an Express Deal from there.

Will post my winnings in a new thread.  Thanks for letting me know about the 2 hr lockout!  Geez, remember when you had to wait several days?

Thanks for posting your other bid. I'd be kicking myself too if I had missed out on a deal like that, which is why I kept hectoring you to take it before it disappeared. I'm not sure why the $66 Express Deal never appeared for you, unless it already gone by the time you checked. As I mentioned earlier, I find Opera to be more reliable than IE or Firefox for showing the best Express Deals.

One more thing to think about: why did you procrasinate with your other bid, which you knew was going to be difficult, and not this one? Business-oriented hotels generally have low occupancy on holiday weekends, so it would have made more sense to lock down the other hotel and hold out for a better deal on this one. As I type this, there's a $74 Express Deal in Goodyear with a 9+ guest rating; it pretty much has to be one of the two Residence Inns.

I totally agree on doing the main reservation before this one.  The only answer I have is, I was going in chronological order.  What's really stupid is that I have one free Marriott night per year with my Marriott visa, which I could have used for the Renaissance Glendale.  It's that I don't Priceline often enough and lose my common sense.  Argh!  I will definitely revisit this post next time to remind me.

I've never used Opera - maybe it's time!

I understand, and believe me, I've seen a lot of people do worse things in my time here.

Have a good trip.
