Disappointed to get Best Western Plus Inn in Scotts Valley since it's classified as a 2.5* hotel here. Good lesson to double check star ratings on Priceline, too. :-(.

Thank you for posting your bid. Priceline now rates almost all Best Westerns 3* but we can't update the Hotel List until we have a confirmed bid. Did you remember to bid through our link to Priceline?

It should make you feel better that if you would have bid for a 2.5*, you would have gotten this hotel anyway, through an upgrade. I'm pretty confident of this as the 2.5* Express Deal is $151. The only way to get a better deal for your dates in Santa Cruz would have been to purchase the 3* Express Deal and use the 5% discount code. You would have saved a few dollars as the Express Deal is also $95.  The 3.5* Express Deal is much higher so that likely wouldn't have been an option.

"Almost all" is a bit of an overstatement. There are certainly a lot more 3* Best Westerns than there used to be, but many are still rated 2* or 2.5*. In fact, there's a 2* and a 2.5* BW in Santa Cruz.

I should have said most of the Best Westerns we see come up through Priceline are rated 3*. In fact, I don't recall seeing a 2* Best Western come up through Priceline in ages.

True, but I think the reasons for this are that more people bid for 3* hotels than for 2* hotels, and that a 3* Best Western is far more likely to be the lowest-priced hotel as its star level than a 2* BW, which often has to compete with low-end chains such as ESA and Days Inn.
