Well, last week I place a bid for a 3.5* property in Anchorage, 72 hours prior to my arrival of September 13, 2013. I had to bid up to $130 to get a room at the Sheraton Anchorage. The lowest rate on their website was $199
I am retuning on September 21, 2013 and followed Sheryl's advice to hold off until a period closer to check in time. I placed a bid 48 hours prior to check in. I was able to get a $100 bid accepted at the same property. The lowest rate on their website remains $199. The larger discount could be a function of waiting to place a bid closer to the arrival date. Another variable is that as the calendar moves further and further into the autumn and tourist traffic dies down, hotels may be more willing to accept lower bids. I will be returning once again in the month of October. It will be interesting to see if a winning bid can be achieved at <$100.
Needless to say, I placed my bid through the BFT link to Priceline.

Thank you for placing your bid through our link to Priceline. Good job on waiting until today to bid for your Saturday checkins where the best deals almost always come at the last minute. I do think you should get a bid accepted for less than $100 in October. Closer to eskimo time.
