Got an inside line on Comic-Con badges after failing to secure badges this year (after going for 10 years straight), so decided to go down for the weekend despite certainly higher costs.  Wanted to stay as close to convention center as possible b/c we have two young kids so would benefit from being able to go back and forth to the hotel room and not walk too far.  A tall order indeed, and a costly trip but worth it for this year's programming and a needed break for our family!

Rates closest to the convention center ranged from $659 up to $1299 for the night of Saturday 7/23, so I started at $400 in the Gaslamp, then increased bid using free rebid zones at $50 each with intent to start increasing at smaller increments once I hit $500.  No need as I (somewhat surprisingly) got a room at $500.  So I might have been able to get the price between $451 and $499, but considering the constraints I'm pretty happy--especially as I got the Hilton which was listing at the highest price of $1299/night.  (However, I later saw that some discounts on Travelocity and other sites had rooms at the Hilton for $520--but I still beat that price, albeit slightly.)

Used the link through Biddingfortravel.com as always.

Thanks Sheryl!  In your opinion was this a successful bid or do you have suggestions for how I could have done this differently/better?

I do think this was a succesful bid as the best deals for Saturday checkins usually come at the last minute, especially during periods of high occupancy,
